Two players the Nets thought would be in training camp instead went for guaranteed contracts 8,000 miles--and worlds--apart.
David Simon, featured in a NetsDaily blog item, has accepted an offer to join Lukoil Akademik in Bulgaria, said Simon's agent, Mike Naiditch in an interview with a Fort Wayne newspaper. Simon, a 6'10" power forward center, starred for Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne the last three years.
Sam Clancy has accepted a guaranteed one-year deal with the Portland Trailblazers. The Blazers are worried that Zach Randolph is not recovering as fast as expected from microfracture surgery as expected and they had no backup. Clancy, 6'7" forward, was the CBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year last year. He averaged 14 ppg and 7 rpg for the Nets' summer league team.
