The first team played well enough to win against the Knicks, but with the exception of Marc Jackson, Coach Lawrence Frank thought the Nets second unit wasn't up to the task. The result was a preseason loss to the cross-river rivals. The Nets were out-quicked in particular by the Knicks' three rookies and Trevor Ariza. Nagging injuries to guards Jeff McInnis and Zoran Planinic didn't help.
