Rod Thorn must have liked what Chris Quinn gave the Nets last season. The new 76er president signed Quinn to a non-guaranteed training camp contract Thursday. That leaves four Nets from last season without an announced destination: Josh Boone, Trenton Hassell, Jarvis Hayes and Bobby Simmons. Shawne Williams, who the Nets released after his arrest on drug charges last season, was also signed to a training camp contract Thursday. The Knicks are giving him a shot.
In the latest edition of Sussman Sez, Nets VP of PR Gary Sussman bids adieu to his boss of 10 years, Rod Thorn. "You can be disappointed, but never be surprised."
I say my thanks to Rodney King Thorn.
Following an introductory press conference at the PNY Center, Nets GM Billy King will appear Thursday on WFAN 660 AM at 1:30 p.m. and then again on ESPN Radio 1050 AM at 1:50 p.m.
The Knicks' signing of Timofey Mozgov seems reminiscent of a Cold War spy caper with Donnie Walsh admitting to hiding the seven footer from Mikhail Prokhorov, working him out secretly in Greenburgh, N.Y. Now, Mozgov (who Rod Thorn says "wasn't on our radar") disses his countryman in giving his reasons for choosing the Knicks, "I did not focus on the Nets because the Nets would take longer to rebuild. I liked Mike D’Antoni’s system better than the Nets."
The Nets will stream their press conference with Derrick Favors and Damion James this morning starting at 11 a.m. In addition to the two rookies, Rod Thorn and Avery Johnson will take questions, a lot of which will concern Thorn's impending departure and the Nets' travel plans for the rest of the week.
Given the number of possible outcomes this offseason, I impart a piece of advice for fellow Nets fans: Don't Panic.
There's been some debate over what the Nets should do if they decide they don't want Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins. Follow the link for options.
Do the Nets need new management, or should Rod Thorn and/or Kiki Vandeweghe continue to run the team beyond this season?
