Bob Raissman of the Daily News reports that P.J. Carlesimo, late of the Nets, will be joining ESPN soon to handle studio analysis for the rest of the NBA playoffs.

Talk of competition between MSG and Barclays Center has always been dismissed diplomatically by the two sides. MSG's mantra is, "The Garden is the Garden," while Barclays officials say there's plenty of room in the region for both. Not anymore.

Sources inside the Nets say that there is virtually no chance now that Phil Jackson will join the team in an executive capacity, that there was in fact limited discussion of him becoming a vice president for basketball operations or similar position.

Phil Jackson may have sent signals he's not interested in coaching and that he prefers a "visionary" role to that of executive but none of that is the Nets from making him their first choice. "The only one is Phil right now," said a team insider.

In a good give-and-take with Ryan Ruocco and Stephen A. Smith Monday, Billy King said that contrary to reports, the next coach of the Brooklyn Nets does not have to be a big name, that some of the best coaches in the league weren't marquee names.

P.J. Carlesimo is making the rounds on New York radio Monday. He admitted to Tim Brando of CBS Sports that the Nets loss to the Bulls was not the determining factor in his release and hinted to Colin Cowherd that player development was an issue.

Mikhail Prokhorov was in Brooklyn to attend Nets playoff games vs. Chicago, but at the same time, his Mikhail Prokhorov Fund, was pushing culture, promoting the fund's three-year long cultural exchange with the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Two days after his former colleague, Marc Stein, suggested that Mikhail Prokhorov might be interested in hiring John Calipari, Ric Bucher dismissed the idea as "absurd."

Briant Geltzeiler of Hoopscritic joined Moke Hamilton of SNY Nets Friday to discuss, on the day the Nets made the playoffs, how Billy King is "in trouble" with ownership. A league source called the discussion, "fantasy basketball."

In an interview on the YES Network, P.J. Carlesimo says the last question Mikhail Prokhorov asks about any player the Nets are considering is this: "Is he gonna be a good piece on us winning a championship?" Everything else is secondary, says P.J.
