Electronic Theatre, a UK gamer site, says it has the soundtrack Jay-Z has compiled to NBA2K. It featured a number of Jay-Z hits like "Pump It Up" and "Run This Town" as well as songs by U2, Cold Play, Kanye West and Nas. No word on what surprise the Nets owner has for Nets fans who buy the game, but we'd be surprised if there weren't any.
With interest in the Nets and Barclays Center rising, Brett Yormark announced tickets for the JAY Z Opening Night concert at the arena will go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 13. JAY Z has also announced today two additional concerts on September 29 and 30 in addition to Opening Night on September 28. Anyone who doesn't expect a Nets tie-in at the concerts needs an emergency class in marketing.
In the midst of an interview on everything from his big Labor Day concert in Philly to his diaper changing skills, Jay-Z got asked about the Nets. Q: Is Dwight Howard coming to New Jersey, or Brooklyn I mean, to play for the Nets? A: I don’t know, I have no idea. Only Dwight Howard know that. He had a chance to come there already, so I don’t know, I have no idea. Sounds like at least one member of the Nets ownership isn't forgetting what happened at the trade deadline.
As if the Dwightmare isn't enough, there's word that Kanye West is Kim Kardashian's rebound lover. Gotta be true. People's reporting it. Moreover, Kanye reveals he's upset with Kris Humphries' treatment of Kim and raps, "Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team." Kanye, of course, is Jay-Z's collaborator and Jay, of course, is ... oh, never mind.
Call it subliminal advertising, but the Nets and Jay-Z are hoping that tens of millions of Americans will make the connection Monday while watching the NCAA Finals. The Nets minority owner voices over a commercial for RocaWear, the company's first, entitled, "From Marcy to Barclays." Near the end as he talks about "ascending to the executive ranks", viewers will see a two-second shot of Times Square billboard advertising Barclays Center...and him.
Normally, Jay-Z is in his front row seats whenever LeBron James and company play the Nets. Not Saturday night. Instead, he was at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan as his wife, Beyonce' gave birth to their first child, a girl reportedly named Blue Ivy Carter...although some reports had it as Ivy Blue Carter. Doesn't matter. She's healthy.
A remix I threw together in commemoration of the Nets move to BK.
It's one thing for an ESPN 5-on-5 panel to argue Deron Williams is ranked too high in their review of the NBA's 500 top players, but suggesting new 76er owner Will Smith is a bigger and "more enticing" celebrity that Jay-Z? Please. Two of the panel think Jay-Z is bigger (although one thinks the advantage is only temporary). The other three are convinced it's Smith's world and we just live in it.
The "A-List" is Avenue Magazine's annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in the city and not surprisingly, among those who made the list for 2011 are Jay-Z and Mikhail Prokhorov. No Nets players made the list (Hey, D-Will plays in NJ) but Amare' and 'Melo did. The Nets posted a link to the list on NJNets.com.
FOX5's "Good Day New York" will be broadcasting live from the Barclays Center site Monday, waiting for Jay-Z's "major announcements". Rosanna Scotto will interview Bruce Ratner and Brett Yormark at 9:00 a.m., Albert King at 9:30, and finally Jay-Z at 9:40. The Press Conference begins at 10 and will be streamed live on both the Nets and Barclays Center websites. Registration is required.
