Hayes May Land in Tel Aviv

Jarvis Hayes is considering an offer from Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Euroleague powerhouse, according to reports out of Israel. Hayes is one of five members of last year's team who has been unable to land a job in the NBA and even the Israeli offer is not firm. Hayes is reportedly competing with Kirk Penney, the New Zealander who was the second highest scorer in the recently concluded World Championships. The Nets have held on to Hayes' Bird Rights. They can retain them if he plays overseas or renounce them. In addition to him, former Nets Bobby Simmons, Josh Boone, Trenton Hassell, and Chris Quinn are without jobs. Quinn has also been rumored to be heading to Maccabi.

Billy King in Istanbul for Worlds

Billy King said last week he was going on vacation but will be carrying his cell phone. It now appears to be a working vacation. He was spotted Saturday entering Abdi Ipekci Arena in Istanbul with USA Basketball President Jerry Colangelo. King has worked with USA Basketball since 1987 when he played for Team USA at the World University Games. No word on if he's scouting anyone while in Turkey. Team USA plays Slovenia at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday.

How Long Before Nets Visit Moscow?

In discussing the Nets plans for globalization, including trips to Beijing, Guangzhou and London this season, Al Iannazzone notes that Mikhail Prokhorov wants the Nets to be part of international travel on a regular basis. "Any chance to play in Europe, the Russian billionaire probably will jump at it," he writes. "It's only a matter of time before the Nets play in Moscow." Problem is that the Nets have only one international player: Johan Petro of France. In comparison, the Knicks have players from Italy, Canada, Jamaica, France, Nigeria and yes, Russia.

Have Nets Made an Offer to Qyntel Woods?

Quyntel Woods was in last week for a workout...and Avery Johnson said nice things about him and his newfound maturity. Now a Polish website quotes Woods' agent as saying the Nets have made the Polish League MVP an offer, but there's been no decision on whether he'll take it. It's possible the 6'9" Woods has an offer like the one Julius Hodge got two summers ago: a non-guaranteed vets minimum contract and training camp invite.

Yi, Lopez Could Be Part of World Championship Prelim in NYC

Yi Jianlian will be competing for Team China in the FIBA World Championships in Turkey this September. Brook Lopez looks like he has a good shot at making Team USA. If so, you could see the teammates competing in an NBA-sponsored Hoops Festival in New York a month earlier. Five or six national teams, including those from the United States, China, Brazil and Puerto Rico, will hold public practices at New York venues like Times Square and Rucker Park and compete in an exhibition tourney at Madison Square Garden.
