Chad Ford mused, in his ESPN chat today, on whether or not Avery Johnson is on the hot seat and who might be a worthy replacement, should the Nets decide to part ways with their head coach.

When he met with the media before the Nets' opener on Saturday, Mikhail Prokhorov reiterated his aim to win a championship, but hinted that the team might have a more modest goal this season.

At shootaround on Monday, the Nets couldn't contain their excitement to play their first game at Barclays Center against the Wizards. MarShon Brooks and Tyshawn Taylor will have to wait for another day, however.

Avery Johnson is excited by what's he seen so far.. In an interview with Bruce Beck on WNBC New York, the coach said the Nets are proud to have built a team. He also praised several players, including Derwon Williams, CJ Watson and Andray Blatche.

It's going to take a while for Mirza Teletovic to get adjusted to playing in the NBA, living in New York (with a wife and two children). So far, he says, it's working. Avery Johnson is encouraging him and encouraging him to do what he does best.

At Nets Media Day, it was more than just the obligatory line about the goal being the NBA championship. A number of Nets players and coaches talked openly their belief that the Nets can bring the O'Brien Trophy to Brooklyn this season.
