3-Team Trade?

It's seems to me that the Orlando Magic are not particularly interested in our assets, but are for whatever reason intrigued by the Houston Rockets' players. They are willing to Howard and let him walk if he chooses to do so. My question is would it not make more since to have Brook Lopez for 5 years instead of 'renting' Howard? Maybe there would be other players involved(Brooks, KMart, Hedo etc). Does this make sense, if not what other multi team trades could you see happening?

Nets Season Tix, Lower Level All Access at a Discount

I've got my seats secured up for next year but I have a friend who got in on the yellow sections on the chart (now sold out) but now has to relocate out of the state and is looking to sell his season tickets at a discount.

The seats are in Section 122, Row 7, Seats 3-4 (so 2 off the aisle). These are All Access seats that will give you first right of refusal on all concerts, as well as all you can eat food at any concession stand. No club access though anymore available to anybody unfortunately, they are "at capacity" per fire marshall code.

The yearly fee on the pair of tickets is $11,000, but he's willing to take a loss on the first season by selling for $9,000, so that's a $2K savings right off the bat. Since the seats are $125 each, that's essentially 8 free games (or your 4 lame preseasons paid for as well as 4 regular season)

Just to clarify, the ownership of the contract would be transferred to you. You would have 3 seasons with these tickets.

If you are interested, shoot me an email at elonepb@gmail.com

Western Conference Finals Preview: (1) San Antonio Spurs vs. (2) Oklahoma City Thunder

Let's switch things up. As the playoffs roll on, we've reached the Western Conference Finals. It's a battle between the two top teams in the Conference as the Spurs and Thunder will battle for the right to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals.

How'd these teams do in the regular season? Let's check the numbers:

2011-2012 Regular Season

Pace

Offensive Efficiency

Defensive Efficiency

Turnover Rate

Offensive Rebounding %

Free Throw Rate

Effective FG%

Opponent eFG%

San Antonio

94.9 108.5 100.6 12.81 25.09 26.1 52.85 48.88

Oklahoma City

95.3 107.1 100 15.25 27.76 33.4 51.6 46.46

League Average

93.8 101.8 101.8 13.77 26.93 27.6 48.7 48.7

Looking at San Antonio in the regular season, the transformation of this team came into full bloom this season. For as long as gregg Popovich has been coaching San Antonio, the Spurs have always played at a slow, deliberate pace. But, as time has gone on & the personnel changed, Pop adapted his style to a faster, almost European-style game. Even though they were the #1 seed last season, they've been a better team this season. The defense is above average, but their real strength has been their offense. They've been the best offense this season in terms of points per 100 possessions, and that's thanks in large part to their excellent three point shooting. They were 7th in attempts and tops in %, which led to them being number 1 in Effective Field Goal % & #2 in True Shooting Percentage. They didn't get to the free throw line much, which makes sense considering that they didn't grab that many offensive rebounds (who really cares when you shoot it as well as they do?), didn't have that many attempts at the rim (15th in the league), or employ a "shot-creator" that draws a ton of fouls like Miami & Oklahoma City do.

Say hello to the second best offense in the NBA. Much like San Antonio, Oklahoma City likes to get up and down the floor. The Thunder were 2nd in points per 100 possessions, third in eFG% & tops in True Shooting%. The strength of this team is their ability to draw fouls. They were tops in Free Throw rate & percentage, thanks in large part to the efforts of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden, who were all in the Top 10 in free throws attempted. Their defense was better than we think, as they were Top 10 in defensive efficiency. Also, and perhaps most importantly, they were Top 5 in the league in opponent's field goal percentage at the rim, from 3-9 feet, 10-15 feet, and 16-23 feet. A lot of that is thanks to the defense of Durant, Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins.

How have they done in the playoffs? Let's take a look:

2011-2012 Playoffs

Pace

Offensive Efficiency

Defensive Efficiency

Turnover Rate

Offensive Rebounding %

Free Throw Rate

Effective FG%

Opponent eFG%

San Antonio

91.5 112 97 12.9 20.5 21.2 54.8 44.9

Oklahoma City

89 112.4 103.3 10.7 23.1 26 50.6 44.9

That 8-0 playoff record is no mirage. The Spurs beat the hell out of the Jazz in Round 1, and took the Clippers' heart in Round 2. I remember after the first quarter of Game 3 when San Antonio fell behind by 22, I thought to myself "maybe Popovich will use this game to rest his key guys." The score the next three quarters? 85-53. They'll never be out of a game due to their great shooting, solid defense, and impeccable ball control. Everything so far matches up to their regular season, as they've been stupendous shooting the ball, haven't done much on the offensive glass, and have stifled their opponents on defense.

In general, the game tends to slow down in the playoffs, so I wouldn't read too much into the slow pace the thunder & Spurs have played at. However, there is something that I think deserves mention. They've been turning over the ball much less in the playoffs compared to the regular season, when they had the highest turnover rate in the league. They swept the Mavericks in the First Round, and took out the Lakers in 5. They've had a tougher road to the Conference Finals than the Spurs, as a lot of their games have come down to the wire.

The regular season series:

Game 1

Game 2

Game 3

Before we jump into the matchups and predictions, let's head back into time. The first clip takes us back to the 1999 Western Conference Finals between San Antonio and Portland. This is extra special because Sean Elliot had just returned to basketball after a kidney transplant.

The second clip brings us to Oklahoma City's only win in last year's Conference Finals vs. Dallas.

And lastly, we head back to the 1996 Western Conference Finals.

Game 1 starts at 8:30 Sunday night on TNT. Jump time!

Draft Day Gear

With a rainy day, being off for school, and all my favorite sports teams having a day off let me wonder about the Nets new jerseys. Even if lady luck doesn't give us Nets fans a break with the draft lottery, the Nets still hold a second round pick. That second round pick will be in Brooklyn Nets gear when taking photos with the press at some point. As of now it look like the Nets' draft pick will be wearing a shirt instead of the usual jersey new draft picks are given.

The Brooklyn Nets draft cap and shirt have been released.

Cap: http://store.nba.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12684799

Shirt: http://store.nba.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12776794&cp=2834601.2836124.2836125.12773897.12807673.12807752.12771050&clickid=prod_cs

Net Income has said several times that he thought the jerseys would be released on the day of the draft but the Brooklyn Nets' store website says they will come out in September. What do you guys think, is there any chance that the new jersey will be released on draft night?

Magic Prepared to Deal Dwight?

Take this with a grain of salt, but sheridanhoops.com is reporting that the Magic have made the decision to move forward with attempts to trade Dwight Howard. According to Sheridan, during meetings between Alex Martins and Rich DeVos last week, it was decided that they would not only get rid of Otis Smith and Stan Van Gundy, but that they would also trade Dwight. Sheridan, citing a "plugged-in league source" says that after the results of the lottery, the Magic will reach out to teams and fish for potential offers.

More thoughts after the jump:

Poll
At this point, are you even reacting to Dwight Howard rumors?

Is Brooklyn and TheBarc Bigger Than Deron (or any one player)? I Think So. A Comprehensive Tour From 5/23/12

There has been much talk of the importance of keeping Deron Williams and how, in the view of some (especially the main stream media), that is 100% correlated to the long term viability of the Brooklyn Nets. While I personally sincerely hope Deron Williams resigns, and in my judgement it would be one of the greatest superstar athlete blunders in the history of sports if he DOESN'T, the reality is it doesn't matter. The Brooklyn Nets are going to be as iconic and appealing of a destination for fans and players alike, more than most currently acknowledge and many (including myself could ever have imagined). Just look at the events of the last month. Add to that what I am about to share with you and maybe, just maybe, some of you will join me on my lonely island of Brooklyn Nets bliss.

Yesterday I had a very extensive tour of our soon to be completed home and it is this magnificent place that will truly be the icing on the cake. If you are interested I created a detailed interactive tour which I would recommend you all checkout:

This my friends is the truth. The battle is over and we have won by reaching the promise land. The Nets will fufill their destiny to be true rivals to the Knicks, Lakers and Celtics. The Nets will continue to grow their fanbase and evolve into one of, if not the, most rapid fanbases in basketball. It just doesn't matter whether Deron, or any other player for that matter agrees, with this because it is a force that cannot be stopped and will grow with talent who does see what is going on and CHOOSES to play a part in this.

Stay strong and stay proud. See you in November, game 1, 1st of our future string of sellouts and blackouts.

Panel discussion mentioning Barclays Center

I went to a conference in NY on Tuesday and a panel was discussing real estate development in NY. Someone from Forest City Ratner Companies was on the panel and she spoke about Barclay's Center. She mentioned that you would be able to see the score inside the arena when you get out of the subway, which is remarkable given how not transparent sports arenas typically are. She claimed it was the first of its kind, which is really exciting. More interesting to me at least, was what she said about the skin. The weathered steel skin took four months to weather to fifteen years, and that they weathered it using rain water. Some of you may have known that, but I definitely did not know that last part. Although I am not clear on whether the panelists were intimating that Barclay's had this as an objective, they also stated generally that some foreign investors in NY look for what is known as "trophy assets". If that was an objective then it looks like it will be a nice one at that. Here is a link to the Crains listing about the event.

so who else is worried about deron?

Lets make this clear...DERON WILLIAMS IS THE BIGGEST STORY OF OUR OFFSEASON...not that draft picks..not dwight coward, but whether or not Deron wants to come back. I think it was kinda clear a couple weeks ago that Deron was leaning towards signing and finishing his career with the new BROOKLYN nets. This was also in the midst when the Mavs were swept in the playoffs with ease.

Now as the season is coming to a close I am starting to get worried. I read an earlier post on this site on how Deron shot down all of the speculation of him coming back and that really put me back a step. I dont think that Dallas is a good situation for him and I think he knows that. But I think the LAKERS, yes the lakers are the most ideal situation for Deron besides BKLYN of course. Shipping Deron to the Lakers makes sense because A) the lakers desperately need a point guard and B) the nets could get something good out of it.

Ultimately I think Deron will come to his senses and realize that a new location, money, and a supporting cast in Brooklyn will make him sign that long term deal. But the Lakers will still loom in the back of everyones head.

Thoughts?

What Really Grinds My Gears

Greetings fellow Brooklyn Nets fan,

Engulfed in an absurd amount of free-time recently, I have begun to read a lot of bleacherreport. Now before you freak out and bash the site for its incompetence, false stories, and clear biased views, I am just talking about the comments of other readers in this fanpost.

Anyway, recent developments have said that D-Will is interested in going to the Lakers in a sign and trade. Personally I cannot fathom that type of move by the Brooklyn Nets.

One particular reader offered his "Fair", "unbiased" trade prediction:

Lakers get Dwight,DWill and Wallace
Magic get Pau,Lopez,MWP and Blake
Nets get Bynum,Turk, and Nelson

Once i saw this I wanted to gauge my eyeballs out and physically attack the person who wrote that. With that trade the Lakers would be getting 2 top 10 players for a washed up 7-footer, a immature baby, an overpriced backup point guard and a psychopath. The Nets would receive that immature baby along with two overpriced washed up back-ups.

I really cannot understand how anybody can be so ignorant and believe that this trade is fair. The Nets would be giving away 3 of their starts for practically nothing. The person who predicted this trade obviously doesn't know anything since they believe the Nets will just give hand the Lakers another 10 years of dominance for nothing.

Basically this fanpost was created so myself and others can just vent about the ridiculous thoughts of others. If anybody has found/or finds other unfathomable Nets/Deron Williams/Dwight Howard feel free to share and discuss.

Yours Truly,

A lifelong New Jersey Nets fan, who is now calling Brooklyn his second home
