The Nets continued on their path toward history in Portland Wednesday night, scoring just 39 second-half points in a 93-83 loss to the Blazers. An 11-0 Blazers run put them up 12 midway through the second quarter, but the Nets closed the half strong and were down just five at the break. The tied the game midway through the third, but the Blazers answered with an 8-0 run, led by six at the end of the period and opened the game up midway through the fourth. The Nets hung in, but never cut the lead to less than eight after that. Brook Lopez recovered from his rough night in Denver with a career-high 32 points and 14 rebounds, and Chris Douglas-Roberts and Trenton Hassell added 18 and 10 points respectively. The Blazers shot 50 percent from the field and outscored the Nets 27-3 from 3-point range. Lopez’s point total was the highest by a Net center since Sam Bowie scored 34 vs. Houston in December 1991. Shawn Bradley also scored 32 in a March 1996 game.

Positives… um.. Lopez…
November 26th, 2009 at 12:27 am
If they play like that against Sac-town they have a shot. Bobby Simmons is now worthless…he can’t hit a three when there is nobody within 10 feet of him…
November 26th, 2009 at 12:29 am
Well we fought hard but the Blazers are just the better team.
The Kings destroyed the Knicks tonight. I hope we don’t bring the same effort that the Knicks had. The Kings is the team we should be able to beat.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:30 am
When will this team get a CHANGE?
When a team is FREAKING 15-0 you have to get rid of the coach…he hasnt taught anyone anything. Golden state could beat a 1st place team with 6 players.
Frank I really cannot watch you on my screen anymore your rediculas plays, your clapping when we are down by 30, your one fist in the air. You are AWFUL and when I say that I mean pure AWFUL! Things are falling through the CRACKS!
Lee got the least amount of playing time which I can understand.
No sean for the 4th when we used him to tie?
Brook you did well I really enjoy watching you, you actually try to help this team.
Harris has decreased a lot since last year he is no all star this year.
Bobby STOP SHOOTING
TWill STOP SHOOTING
CDR You actually care also
Rafer kept the team together
Last but not least once again Lawrence Frank you cannot coach your way out of anything. You had decent records for years because you had experienced players who COACHED for you and made plays. Now you are stuck with a bunch of young guys who you have to carry on your back and you cannot do that because you a bum. Jason Kidd is going to beat us next Wed and make us the worst starting team of all time. The man who carried your job for you, you stole the credit of Jason Kidd, VC, and Byron Scott.
Please Frank for the team QUIT!
November 26th, 2009 at 12:32 am
The Nets just can’t shoot.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:33 am
I don’t understand why Frank still plays Simmons. Cannot guard, cannot shoot. Anybody is better than him.
Oh well, Friday is the day to escape history.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:36 am
Does anyone think that the team is playing for Frank to get fired?
November 26th, 2009 at 12:36 am
wow i say fire frank. why does he play boone and simmons they both suck. Hassel and Swat r so much better. Swat played amazing tonite with blocks…. were going to lose everygame until we get hayes back….. we need shooting!!
November 26th, 2009 at 12:36 am
So when Swat and Boone get 2 fouls early who do you guys suggest he play? Nets don’t have enough talent..
November 26th, 2009 at 12:37 am
@Tony
because he has no other players even remotely big enough to play the four?
@Randy
Talent rules in the NBA and the Nets don’t have much. Sean Williams is AWFUL. Okay, AWFUL.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:38 am
simmons is stealing money
November 26th, 2009 at 12:40 am
They actually played hard again tonight like they have most of the season. Unfortunately, this team is so lacking of offensive talent it’s unbelievable. I think the droughts on the offensive end are hurting even more than defensive lapses. Looks like the record is ours. What ever happened to home games against teams like Memphis, Washington, and Minnesota. Too bad the schedule gods were not kind, but sooner or later they’ll win one.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:42 am
@Net Income
Sean might not have the best dribling or shooting but the guy can play Defense. He hasnt been taught how to do that because since 07 Frank has shown no faith in him and no intrest in improving him. Frank has his favorites I believe, if you arent on his good side you will not be played.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:43 am
@Randy
Please spare us your hysterical, parochial anti-Frank agenda. This is not the coach’s fault. The talent on this roster is barely NBA-worthy in aggregate. They played inspired much of tonight’s game and lost because of a massive talent deficit.
By the way, isn’t it time to safely say that Courtney Lee is a severe disappointment?

The list of Nets players that are awful is very long my friends. A very wise prophet once said to young fledging NBA fans…one good play does not a good player make…or something like that. Point is, don’t get too happy when some of the scrubs on the Nets (of which there are about 7 or
make a good play. When you watch good teams, the players make a lot of good pays all the time. That’s the thing. Doing it over and over again more than it up. The Nets can’t shoot, turn the ball over, offensive fouls, etc. Yeah bad coach obviously. Bad players too totally obvious.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:45 am
we lost 2 games on buzzer beaters…this is our destiny to break the record, then we shall rise from the ashes next year with a top 3 pick and some quality free agents, gotta drop the dead weight though
November 26th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Courtney lee and bonny simmons are worthless. Package them up and get them gone.
Am I seeing correctly that lee didn’t score any points??
Great trade! We got back nothing if we don’t use that cap space this summer.
Simmons……you can’t wash rj’s socks. As far as I am concerned he is the worst sf ever to put a net jersey on. Including mercer, Wright, and Adams. Where is Chris Morris when you need him!!!
We are going to lose 20 straight games.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Randy, not only is Lee a disappointment but caught a little bit of Ryan Anderson against Miami and not saying he is an All star but when was the last time a Net had three 3 pointers in a game??
November 26th, 2009 at 12:50 am
You know, coming into this season, it was really evident that Yi was going to be an really important X factor for the team offense. Lee to a lesser extent. Harris is currnetly on the back of milk carton, and that was a big problem this evening. He jut has to play his way back. Right now he sucks. CDR has taken up much of the slack, but it’s not enough.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:52 am
I thought most of our player suck tonight besides Brook who played great, and CDR who played decent. Everyone else who was on the floor sucked.
Devin Harris – I know he just came back from an injury and should give him more time before I criticize him, but he really isn’t the guy that can lead a team. He doesn’t have the talent to be the go-to guy. He was a borderline All Star last year because of Vince, and this year without Vince you can see how his numbers decrease dramatically.
C. Lee – Another guy who just came back from injury, even though he only played 9 minutes, he just looked lost when he was out there on the floor.
Rest of the Roster – They all can’t hit a jump shot, whether it be a mid-range shot, behind the arc, on the baseline, or even a simple layup. This is our biggest problem. Aside from Brook and CDR, no one else can make a jump shot.
As I have said before, we just don’t have enough talents to win any games.
November 26th, 2009 at 12:55 am
Yeah, the Courtney Lee trade looks absolutely horrible right now, actually it did over the summer too. Not only did we just dump Carter, but I wouldn’t even trade Ryan Anderson for Courtney Lee straight up. Guesss there’s a reason Anderson was drafted first. I can only guess Thorn had a gun to his head on that one.
November 26th, 2009 at 1:07 am
Bobby Simmons isn’t just stealing money he’s Bernie Madoff with the money.
November 26th, 2009 at 1:28 am
If Sean Williams was awful, I do not know the word to describe Simmons. You know a word that’s 10 times worse than awful?
November 26th, 2009 at 1:35 am
Lawrence , you can’t see eye to eye with your players, literaly.
November 26th, 2009 at 2:24 am
Would you take ed obannon or simmons? That’s a toss up.
Yes scott padget was better than simmons. Simmons makes boki look like carmelo!!!!
November 26th, 2009 at 2:40 am
Hey does anyone know when Yi is supposed to be back.
November 26th, 2009 at 2:48 am
‘You know a word that’s 10 times worse than awful?’
Putrid?
November 26th, 2009 at 3:08 am
bring back boki! at least he can make the three….
November 26th, 2009 at 3:26 am
@Biggie
“If Sean Williams was awful, I do not know the word to describe Simmons. You know a word that’s 10 times worse than awful?”
Yes, yes, YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!
I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that people bash Sean this way, but defend Opie for using Simmons at the 4. Simmons is the guy you should bash, not Sean. Simmons is flat out horrible and hasnt done anything to deserve any pt, yet Opie keeps playing him no matter what. Sean at least brings some hustle. Simmons is the highest paid player on this roster, but some people here dont criticize him that much bc they’d be bashing Opie for playing him this much even if he doesnt deserve it at all. The easier thing to do for them is hate on Swat. I love it!
PS.: Fire Frank NOW!
November 26th, 2009 at 5:14 am
we need better players
November 26th, 2009 at 7:28 am
There is no doubt that when Swat plays with Lopez we’re at our best. Whether the stats confirm it or not I don’t care. The problem with Swat is he is too aggressive, plays out of control and can’t stay on the court cuz of fouls. It something he has to learn. He needs time with Bill Russell. The way I see it with him is if the team makes 20 “good” plays a game Swat could make 10 of them in 15 min but give up 4 fouls. A lot of them won’t be picked up in a +/- stat, like last night he made a great save or his help D or the misses he creates. To me he really hurts himself more than he hurts the team. It doesn’t look that way cuz we have nobody else. He still is much better than the garbage that we play at the PF besides him and as far as I’m concerned we can’t win without him so he needs to play until he fouls out. Boone and Swat had 9 fouls so we had 3 fouls left. That’s 3 fouls that I don’t have to see Simmons at the PF for. Another guy who we desperately miss is Hayes.
November 26th, 2009 at 7:28 am
Yi-Lee-Battie-Najera-SWat-Simmons-Hassell-Boone SUCKS!!!!
cmon guys, we need a real team not a bunch of useless old guys and 2 young overrated injury prone guys.
this streak isnt in franks shoulders alone.
wtf harris got 6 pts only, did he reached his peak last year and now he is comming down hard ?
Right now we only have 2 mans doing the job: Lopez and CDR
I pray our #1 pick comes in the pack of a Dwayne wade or Melo or someone like thoses dudes.
BTW: for those VC haters, if any of you saw orlando’s game last night there you see who we lost. He hit an imposible 3 to put the Magics ahead. too bad Jason williams missed the free throws and michael beasley hit a dunk to win the game. but that 3 pointer was just amazing.
THX in some ways to the VC haters, now that he is gone he is in a real team and he will win the Ring book it
November 26th, 2009 at 7:34 am
Anderson is 1000 times better than baby crying like Courtney lee.
we just gave away 1 star and a future star (somehow i see anderson like a Dirk type of player) away for Orlando’s Garbage.
but i feel outstanding
knowing that VC its on his way to the ring right now instead of being here wasting his last days of youth in a team were no one including the front office looked at him like a vauable and reliable scorer but more like a salary dump.
eat that rat, thorn and frank + VC haters
November 26th, 2009 at 7:44 am
I’m soooooooooooorry but I’m done with all these excuses. Like Thorn himself said, we’re not the only team dealing with injuries.
The Kings are playing without Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia and Beno Udrih, yet they’re 6-8. Without three key players, they beat the Knicks yesterday (yeah the same Knick team that won us last weekend without doing too much).
The Warriors beat the Mavs on the road playing only 6 guys. The Bucks are playing without Bogut and previously were winning games without Redd.
Those are teams that most of posters here said we’d end ahead of this season. What’s happened?
I always thought we couldnt win more than 22-25 games at best. I even remember that some of us got called out by some homers on this site who get mad at people who told them that talking about playoffs was laughable. Some of those guys are now saying this team is just so bad that the coach doesnt deserve any blame for leading us to the worst start ever.
I have said it all along before the season started: I dont care that much about the wins and the losses. This is a young team that lacks proven talent to win more than 22 games. But you cant pretend to make this coach blameless after this dismal start. 0-15, with Bobby Simmons playing the 4. Disgusting. We’re about to break the worst start in NBA history. And we’re challenging for the worst record ever if we keep this up.
Do you seriously think this is the WORST team ever? Do you? Because that’s where we are headed. If you think so, then I dont have anything else to tell you.
PS.: Lmao @ the VC haters who thought we would be better without him.
November 26th, 2009 at 7:47 am
We gave Ryan Anderson away because “he had the same skill set as Yi.” What a joke. Anyone watching the Magic games this year would have to conclude that Anderson would be the best player on the Nets right now. It’s not just his 3’s. He drives, rebounds, and makes smart passes. Yi does not have that “skill set” and never will. But, RA cannot sell jerseys in Shanghai, so “good-bye.”
November 26th, 2009 at 7:49 am
Orlando’s stars (esp Howard) and system make Anderson look better than what he really is, and the same happened to Courtney Lee. I like the kid, and I sure believe that that deal was one of the most lopsided trades ever, but Ryan Anderson wasnt the long term answer at the 4 either. And yes, I think Yi is a more talented player than him.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:01 am
@Andres
You must not be watching the games. Anderson is often on the Court when Howard is on the bench. Last night, he hit 3’s with hands in his face, drove to the basket and scored, drove to the basket and dished, all with Howard off the court. Anderson is a legit NBA starter.
I just don’t get the Yi enthusiasm. He lacks everything you want from a PF except height. His teammates have no faith in him. When he posts up, the guards are reluctant to feed him the ball because the most likely result is a turnover. He rarely gets a CONTESTED rebound. Ugh. No future for Yi ever.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:03 am
Ryan would have helped tremendously. This team has needed a good power forward since The Rat lost Kenyon. Still does. Fault Thorn for not replacing him. Imagine if we had kept Curly and Anderson. We’d have at least 5 wins. Hey, Thorn, why exactly did we need C Lee over Anderson? And, yes, at this point both Simmons and Frank need to go.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:04 am
We don’t have the talent. We don’t have the right mix of players. Our point guards are not sharp enough to create opportunities for themselves or others. Jason Kidd with these same set of players would have given us a better record. We don’t have a single player who brings intangibles to this team. Brook is just discovering himself but the others don’t look Luke they are capable of anything extra ordinary. We need a crazed engine like Jason Kidd to run this car. We also need a stronger and more durable PF and we will be fine. Alston is mediocre point guard who doesn’t think quick on his feet and his shooting percentages have dropped this year which makes him a liability. Devin is looking ordinary without Carter. Right now we need a tough, skilled and intelligent PG, a real solid PF. The wings will settle down once we get these 2 positions locked up. Frank is not to be entirely blamed for this situation. He is playing with the cards that he has been dealt. But, maybe he has just run out time with most players tuning him out. Next year will be beginning if something good.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:05 am
“of” something good.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:08 am
@robby
Anderson started several games while Lewis was out, so he has played plenty of minutes next to Howard. Last game I watched with Lewis back was against the C’s and Ryan struggled a loooooooooooot when he played alongisde Gortat instead of Howard.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:13 am
@ Andres
you might not be watching the games but the box score at NBA.com only…..
omG anyone can conclude that the Nets LOST hard in the VC for garbage trade they performed.
@ everyone reading and posting commnets
VC has talent Anderson has it too!
Yi has injuries and more injuries
Lopez-CDR-Harris is the only good the nets have then:
Lee-Yi are overrated but also useless players
Jayes-Dooling are our only decent bench
and Twill is a rookie so im not on him right now.
all the others im missing, H_E_L_L No!!! simmons, SWat, Najera, Boone, Battie, Hassell are the worst things we could have ever landed on
lets give a small break to Boone since he has been decent but still ill waive them all
November 26th, 2009 at 8:26 am
@ Andres
Ryan is not ready for the Hall of Fame, and Howard makes everyone better. Agreed. Ryan has had good streaks with Gortat in the game as well as Howard, and bad streaks. My point is that he has skills and athleticism that are sorely needed on the Nets and that Yi lacks and will always lack. What annoys me is that he was GIVEN away after one year as part of a scheme to eliminate competition for the PF job on the Nets. The followup to dumping RA was not signing any other PFs and not drafting any, leaving Yi to “compete” with Swat and Trenton Hassel. After years of rooting for the Nets, I find it hard to swallow.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:35 am
“Zambezi Says:
We don’t have the talent. We don’t have the right mix of players. Our point guards are not sharp enough to create opportunities for themselves or others. ”
IMO that sums it up. The team isn’t really that good. At times yesterday i felt that frank had the best combination of players to make us win…i was happy to see harris cdr twill swat and brook together at some points.
No one makes plays for eachother its always one on one basketball. No slashers…no each baskets. I guess it doesnt help that no one can hit there shots.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:38 am
No easy baskets, i meant to say. We need keyon and hayes who were a big part of wins last season. Harris needs to take over…
November 26th, 2009 at 8:38 am
What am I thankful for? I can’t say a Net victory since it has not happened. I can say the Appeals court ruling; and I can say the Russian Billionaire. I can say that NetIncome wants good grammar (or is that well grammar?). I hope he or she notices that I used a semi-colon! I will be soooooooo thankful for the first victory: how sweet that will be! I hope it comes soon and in Sacremento. I would be thankful if Martin does not play. (I used a colon, too!) I will be thankful when all our players are healthy. Finally, I will be thankful when this season is over.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:41 am
14 down only 68 to go…
November 26th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Note on Josh Boone, I thought he played really well. It doesn’t show in the stats, but he gave us a lot of second chance shots off rebounds.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:19 am
I’ve been vocal about the coach for a number of years. Last year VC was the player/coach. This year ?? Also remember this cast is Rod Thorn’s. Great individual guys but individual guys do not always make up a team. As a team we are setting new records this season. Perhaps the salary cap money next year can be spent on subsidizing Net Season ticket holders as there will not be many good players who will want to participate in this “DEBACLE”
November 26th, 2009 at 9:39 am
I turned it on at 54-54 so I guess I jinxed things, sorry!
Bobby Simmons and Devin Harris were absolutely awful in the time I watched.
NI, it is scary to see Sam Bowie, Shawn Bradley and Brook Lopez mentioned in the same paragraph. Never again!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:15 am
The choice is obvious: either the Nets lack talented players and THORN should be fired or the players are talented they just can’t win which means you fire FRANK. I lean towards us having talented players. What the team lacks is a STAR.
For all the people that say this team lacks talent, other than power forward, which position could be filled easily.
–Brook is a developing star
–CDR is becoming a threat
–Harris was a major player until recently
–TWill can be special if he ever gets an outside shot
November 26th, 2009 at 10:26 am
Devin Harris is really out of sync. Hope to see get his crap together ASAP.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Another good effort by CDR (18 pts). Too bad Frank waited until the last MINUTE (literally) to design plays for CDR. During that designated minute, CDR scored 4 pts. Too little, too late, but couldn’t this have happened earlier in the game? Anyway, GO NETS!!
November 26th, 2009 at 11:04 am
Words/phrases to describe Bobby Simmons:
overweight
slow
flat-footed
exponentially, laughably, insanely overpaid
useless
exruciating
hopeless
happy thanksgiving to all
November 26th, 2009 at 11:59 am
Kiki, better strengthen your back, knees and legs. You are going to need them for pacing on the sidelines.
Hollah!
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Hollah!
November 26th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I am so sick for LFrank’s voice
November 26th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
@ djheavyduty – Agreed! FIRE FRANK!
November 26th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
frank needs to use Crest white strips on his yellow teeth and stop rubbing his nose and cheeks and making them all red if he is going to be the public figure that he has become…Oh and get a stylish tie …Get rid of that 4″ wide rusty colored seventies tie….I think that he gets paid enough money for this…..Our team Image needs to start with the coach….
November 26th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
@ DJHeavyDuty…….I’m sure that Lebron and Wade ,etc…would not appreciate hearing frank’s voice screaming at them from the sidelines all night long either…..Another reason for them not to come to the NETS…
November 26th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Yes 15 loses. But nice games by Lopez and Sean. I like the last play, it’s so convoluted they got 5 seconds violation.
What an exhibition of professionalism by a coach. It’s all about how you carry yourself. But norms and values are not the key to game, how you carry your team to win a game, win a division, win a conference, and win a championship are degree of achievements. Unfortuntely, NETS went south, further south that is to play the game not to lose disgracefully. That’s how low the NETS got under Frank. So keep the losing streak going.
November 26th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Let kiki take a crack at it. his obsession for fallen angels might give SWAT some decent minutes….if he doesnt foul out first. Man this team is in need of some MAJOR changes in the offseason.
November 26th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
what they lack the most is not talent but teamwork, they should really learn from the rockets.
November 26th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
@joe
“What am I thankful for?” I can’t believe you got away with this. “For what am I thankful” is how it must be written. Geez.
November 26th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
They don’t even guard Simmons anymore. They let him shoot because he misses 70% of the time. He plays no defense – its amazing how bad he is. And Frank plays him. Frank does not have a lot of options – but Simmons isn’t an option anymore.
The Nets just don’t have the players. And when is Yi coming back? This guy is either hurt or in a funk. I was never a fan of Jefferson – but somebody should get fired for that trade.
Its pathetic watching this team. I actually feel sorry for Frank – even if he is making $4 million. He’s a laughing stock.
November 29th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Framk is no more…. still the Lakers will get our hides hard
130-70
