We shouldn’t have played our starters til the end of the game vs the Nuggets.
I haven’t predicted a win all season until this game. We will win this game, if not, I am banning myself from commenting for a month.

All you people who want Frank fired are mistaken.
The best situation for us is for Frank to finish the season and be fired at seasons end. Then, we tell the big free agents to sign with us and hand pick a coach they want. We are going to offer the big free agents a brand new arena, top notch young core, a top 3 draft pick and plenty of cap space for more signings.

Ronnie your reasoning makes good sense. Agreed, but this is a joke. Frank has to go. He has to take the fall for this embarrassment. Honestly this team might not win a game for long time. Every opponent is not going to want to lose to them and will come to play. Thorn made plenty of mistakes, but enough is enough. I mean come on! 0 -14!!!

As if firing Frank is the solution. Once he is gone, the players will be more talented, the team will be healthier.

Frank can be replaced by Barrise or one of the other current assistants. That should cost very little additional money. One big reason I want to see Frank fired sooner rather than later is to be certain he won’t be resigned for next season. If that happens I don’t think I will continue as a Nets fan.

Find me the definition of “firing” someone necessarily associated with the notion of solution.
Nobody said firing Frank is the SOLUTION per se.
Frank should get fired so the path toward finding a solution can be set forth. Firing someone is never supposed to make a company/organization “BETTER”; wrong logic to counter, my friend. It’s supposed to get rid of the people who has stopped making progress or will actually hurt the future; it is not supposed to make other employees better.

Another game or two with this kind of lack of effort and even THORN is going to be ready to fire LFRANK. Denver shot 48% from the field, and we couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Maybe we chalk this effort up to the “thin air” in Denver, and Brook and CDR being exhausted from playing too many minutes so early in the season.
I am ready to give up on this half of the season, because by the time everybody gets back, and gets used to each other, it will be All Star break time. What a miserable season. Our hope for a win anytime soon….Sacremento.

Frank has been here for 7 season and he has done NOTHING (even when he had better players) to be kept around any more, I’m sorry for you the Opie lovers, but that’s the bottom line. If they fire Frank this wont get any worse, b/c it CANT get any worse.

Frank supporters have more excuses than anyone..Look everyone knows the ONLY reason Frank is still coach is because Mgmt doesnt want to pay 2 coaches with all thats going on..
This is a result driven league and Frank simply hasnt produced..Stop acting like this is the 1st year the majority of fans have called for Frank to be fired.. this has been going on for several years now s the losses have piled up..I’m sure Frank is a great guy however as a coach he is below average

this is a winnable game. if we dont win this we are going to break the record. we wont have a chance of winning until games 19/20. charlotte and ny.

i want frank gone but i agree that it should be done when the season is over. reality is this team isn’t good. Sad to see that offense is always one to one. No play makers. every point scored isnt easy…meanwhile the opponent gets many easy baskets…we need a leader!

How you cannot put a lot of this on the coach is absurd.
Who can honestly tell me that they watched the game last night and saw a well coached, well organized, fluid, and fundamentally sound basketball team – that just didn’t get the breaks it needed.
Sorry, but Frank hasn’t a clue. He’s a great X’s and O’s guy and probably always will be, but he doesn’t have the slightest idea about how to get a team to victory outside of his whiteboard.
Just go check the Golden State game last night. SIX players. Win.

If we have to go to Tom Barrise lets keep Lfrank. I would suggest Kiki or even Doug Overton IF we must make a change. IF anyone on here is going to be objective the issue is inferior talent and injury. Thats it!! We may not like it. But the reality is that this season is a wash. We must start supporting the franchise making the right moves going forward.
We need to know that Proky can adapt and put a winner on the floor quickly. He should be ok because the reality is players go where the money is. We have to hope that Thorn with an open checkbook can make it happen. That Yormark with an open checkbook wont have to throw spur of the moment gimmicks up to sell tickets in Newark for the next 2-3 years until we get to BK. That the staff that is left can build a bridge for us from IZOD-ROCK-Barclays Center.

If someone has to take the fall for this disaster, I’m like to see Thron step up and resign. This mess is more the fault of the front office than the coaching staff. Even within the constraints set by Ratner, this team has been poorly constructed for five years and counting, and there has been little or no long-term planning. Just look at the front office report card that NI puts out twice a year. Look at all the names carefully. What a joke of a franchise this is. I predicted an 18-win season in the forum prior to the season, and it is hard to believe that I was optimistic.

Here’s a quote from NBA.com’s recap of a game last night:
“Golden State was down to eight healthy players—and used only six. Warriors coach Don Nelson wasn’t with the team as he recovers from pneumonia. Still, Monta Ellis(notes) and Stephen Curry(notes) wouldn’t let injuries or sickness become an excuse.”
This example effectively destroys the excuse of playing with 8 healthy bodies before. And the Warriors did not beat a bad team; they beat a team with a contender’s record. Losers will keep finding excuse.

Be historically bad to start the season by playing it off like your whole team’s injured, and then when everyone least expects it…bam! run off a 25 game winnng streak to get back into the playoff race..a delusional Net fan can dream

The Nets FO put together a team of bad shooters, and mostly poor defenders, and expected them to flourish under Frank, a defensive minded coach (who keep in mind struggled to create offense with Jason Kidd as his PG, VC as his SG, and RJ as his SF). They fire Frank, they should fire themselves also.

If Frank had any dignity and respect for the Nets he would resign at once. I think he is an overrated coach who relied on Kidd and Carter to keep his job this long. Most any other coach would be fired, or would of resigned at this point. What makes him so special? He comes across as an arrogant, selfish egotist, but masks his real persona with his baby face and just a “regular” good ole boy trying to do good, charm. Time to say goodbye Larry…

Frank’s a defensive-minded coach??? Wow… I guess that’s why Harris actually played lock-down defense under Avery Johnson and hasnt played ANY defense under Frank. RJ stopped playing defense because he wanted to score and get on the all-star team. The Nets have not had a defensive team since Byron scott left, Byron literally had the Nets at the top of the league in defense. Frank pretended to be a defensive-minded coach is what you probably meant to say.

Are Josh Boone and Sean Williams All-Stars? Certain people on this website seem to view them as “the solution” at power forward. When either one of those two are the second-best big man on the roster Kenyon, Nene and Andersen are going to have a field day no matter what lineup you trot out there.

6 out of the 14 games were against what I would call good teams. 5 of those 6 losses were by 10 points or more. Most of our games are against bad teams. That’s why we look competitive. The coach thinks that the injured players need time to get in shape and become comfortable with each other saying they will need “weeks”. Who is he kidding? If Lee went back to Orlando and Harris went back to Dallas tomorrow they wouldn’t miss a beat. The coach is way to analytical and totally out of touch. I’m wondering if he ever raises his voice let alone calls someone out. Forget about Portland but if we don’t come out fired up against Sacramento and we’re 0-15, you have to let him go. If we’re not competitive against some of the worst teams in the league, it’s not fair to the fans that financially support this team without making a change.

And that’s the point. Do you think Frank really wants to play Trenton Hasell at all, let alone at power forward? Do you think he really wants to play Bobby Simmons? Of course not. But there’s not a single viable option on the team. Yi’s got the most talent of any of the PFs, but he’s inconsistent at best.

As ND stated yesterday the only viable option has played 34 min with Lopez and is +5 in 14 games. He’s not an all-star, maybe not the solution but the best we got. 34 MINUTES! That’s the point!

Did you ever stop to think that Lawrence Frank might really want to get fired? Maybe he wants out like most of his players. It is becoming sad and boring watching this team now. I don’t mind the losing, but losing with Hassel and Simmons in the lineup is downright insulting. Play the young kids and at least we might have a rooting interest in watching players develop.

I agree with itsaduck completely. Thorn should call a presser, announce that someone has to take the fall for this mess, and as the party most to blame, he should resign. Who put the roster together? Who drafted Marcus Williams, Sean Williams, Josh Boone, etc.? Who signed all those quality free agents? Who approved the RJ and Vince deals?
Frank has been put into an impossible situation. You can’t squeeze blood from a turnip.

@ Mr. Big, If you think Sean Williams is a viable option, then I don’t have an answer for you. Sean’s ability gets me excited as much as anyone else, but he’s he screws up more plays than he makes. The Nets have tried to trade him and no other team wants him. He probably won’t be in the league next year.

I don’t blame Frank much. The roster he’s been given is terrible, and the injuries have made it worse.
I don’t blame the players much. They are who they are.
I don’t blame Thorn much. His hands have been tied and his wallet has been taken away.
I just really, really hope that the Nets win tonight. I feel bad for all of them and an 0-15 start would make for a miserable Thanksgiving for them and for us Nets fans, no matter who’s fault it is.

Exactly! What has this mediocre coach to get all this ridiculous love? Opie has been here for seven years (I think some people neglect that: SEVEN years), and he has done absolutely nothing to be kept around, period. Stop talking like if this was his 1st season here and he was given a mediocre roster. He has had better players, and he hasn’t proven to be a special coach to a point that we’re 0-14 and you keep this guy! Enough is enough. Frank needs to go, and you shouldn feel sorry for him. He’s getting $4.5M for leading us to the worst start in NBA history, I dont know what else needs to be said.

If Kiki does not have and oversized ego then he should step in and coach the team the rest of the season. Demote L.Frank to assistant. If he does not like it then make him cut his salary of $4.5 million dollars and walk.
Prokhorov told Rod not to spend any money until he is on board. The way I see it by demoting L.Frank and maybe forcing him to take a cut to walk. It seems the Nets can save more money for Prokhorov, Viola and Ratner for this year. Pretty good Basketball and Business move don’t everybody think?

Whether you like LF or not, he is gone at the end of the year when the new owner hires “his” coach. Any change made before our Russian cash machine takes over will be temporary so why bother unless Rod wants to put LF out of his misery.
“buried at the bottom” is much better than “stuck in the middle”.
Richest owner, best stadium with lots of NYC buzz, global appeal from Russia to Mexico to China, most cap space, most quality draft picks (#1 this year?), solid core of talented young players and an experienced GM who given the resources (all noted above) and committed owner (a basketball junkie) will deliver. Be happy. 5 and 9 with no hope of finishing better than 35-47 sucks. 0-14 with a shot at the #1 draft pick gives the fans something to write/talk about even if free agency does not bring the big dog. And as long as the future is VERY bright – sit back and enjoy the ride.
The league is full of mediocre teams that have no real hope of being among the elite (a honest chance to compete for the title) this year or any year. Those are the fans you should feel sorry for. We have a honest chance of being in the elite within 2 years and staying there for a long time. Awesome….

I don’t hate Lawrence Frank. I don’t think he’s a bad person. I just do not rate him highly as a coach, and like others, I do not see what he has done to earn this kind of love. I play fantasy leagues with fans of other teams for years, and i gotta tell you the Frank-loving phenomenon is something unique in this franchise. It makes no sense for regular NBA fans.

@ Biggie, the guy’s a smart, hard-working coach. Those don’t grow on trees. Yeah, there’s probably a few beter coaches out there, but not many that would be better than what the Nets have now.
There’s a reason he outlasted Byron’s tenure with the Hornets, even though Byron had one of the five best players in the league and an All-Star big man. (Hint: Frank doesn’t play golf.)
When the Nets had some talent on the roster, they did pretty well. They won 49 games in ‘05-06 and went to the 2nd round two years in a row. And that was after they sent one of the best defensive players in the league to Denver and Kidd began to want out.

Do you guys just skip over all the quotes by other coaches and scouts about how good of a coach Frank is? I tend to trust their judgement more than “regular NBA fans” who have never been in a locker room or would have no idea how to run an NBA offense or defense.
Sure, the coaches aren’t going to say anything bad about a colleague on record, but the scouts’ quotes are all anonymous, and I’ve read plenty of quotes from scouts that trash opposing players or coaches.

And he didn’t say Hassell was the best post-up player.

Lopez is getting doubled in the post a lot, but if Hassell has been guarded by another small forward, he’s actually been somewhat effective. Other than those two, there’s not a single post-up player on the roster.
You can’t run every play through Lopez obviously and the only other bigs that can play right now are Boone and Williams. Neither of those two can do anything offensively other than rebound and dunk. Good luck running the offense through them.

Seriously, look at the players Frank had to work with when Harris was out. Lopez and CDR were the only ones with any ability to score consistently.
Lopez was getting swarmed, because there was at least one other player on the floor who couldn’t shoot. And CDR just puts his head down and tries to do everything himself.

@ Onion. Hey you say Swat and Boone stink and maybe they do but can we at least see them play somewhere instead of always out of position as back up 5s. Swat is 6′8″ he is not a full time 5. Not expecting Karl Malone but would like to see them play regular minutes at the 4 and maybe one of them can develop into a servicable back up 4 before we jettison them ala Curly, Ryan.
Dont care if we keep Frank as this season is abt most ping pong balls now, but we need to evaluate players going forward. If Frank stays should be moratorium on all player decisions as nobody seems to be playing the right spots. Including I may add our 7 foot 290 lb center who is always on the perimeter

Yeah there’s a reason Larry Frank outlasted Byron’s tenure with the Hornets…Rod Thorn is his dad’s old business partner and signed him to a $4.5 million extension so the Nets cant afford to hire another coach. If the GM/President of the Nets was anyone other than Rod Thorn or if Frank was any other coach he wouldve been fired about 2-3 seasons ago. Just because the Nets cant afford to pay a 2nd coach and Rod Thorn did his dad a favor doesnt mean Frank is a great coach.

Doesn’t matter whether you like or hate Frank, the guy’s a lame duck BEFORE Prokhorov’s name came up. Once Prokhorov owns the team, the house cleaning will begin and Frank’s a goner.
The only way I can see Frank leaving before the ownership change is when the team is mostly healthy and they played like they did vs. Denver consistently. Otherwise, us Nets fans will have to endure the season and hope that Prokhorov gets the team sooner than later.

Onion didn’t even say anything about not passing to teammates. I don’t know where you’re getting that from. Maybe you should reread the post.
For that matter, though, Brook’s not good at passing out of the double. He’s not good at reacting to the double, period. At least not yet. Sometimes it takes time, sometimes players never get it. We’ll see, I guess.

@ SIC, didn’t say that. But if he did pass out of the double-teams, there wasn’t anyone to consistently make a shot.
The situation is better now with Harris, obviously. Or it will be once he’s back in shape. But Lopez is still going to get swarmed because there’s not enough talent around him.

@ jarkid – I don’t think we play the Warriors until sometime in January, by which time Frank will (hopefully) be LONG GONE. If not, then nothing can help us.

we all know frank isn’t very good. but they could have pat riley or phil jackson coaching and they still wouldn’t have 5 wins. this roster stinks. it stunk last year they made it much worse in the off-season. alston is a lousy pg. lee is a project at best. TW is a pathetic shooter. kiki & thorn should go even before frank.
