Ugly offense continues to be the story for the Nets as they approach the record for the worst start in NBA history. The Nets shot just 39 percent from the field and 5-20 from 3-point range, while turning the ball over 24 times Tuesday night in Denver, falling to the Nuggets 101-87. The Nets jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but the Nuggets outscored them 27-10 over the final 10 minutes of the first quarter and did not look back. It was a six-point game late in the second quarter, but a 15-1 Denver run spanning the second and third kept the lead at double-digits for good. Rafer Alston and Devin Harris led the Nets with 19 points apiece, but Chris Douglas-Roberts and Brook Lopez combined for just 10 points on 2-10 shooting. The only bright spot was the return of Courtney Lee. Although he scored only seven points on 2-7 shooting, he had a career-high six steals in 22 minutes.

Why doesn’t Lopez post up anymore? He just likes another Boone on the court without the ability to rebound.
This team is a mess, it’s not about injuries, it’s about inability of really coaching.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Otherwise, Courtney Lee is really a downgrade from Carter at SG. We should try to trade him, he is worse than CDR and T.Williams.
Again, Hassell was the power forward to play against Martin..sigh.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
I can’t wait for this season 2 be done with…but it was expected we would lose 2 the nuggets. Please, can we pull an upset or wat?? frank is gonna be gone after this, some serious changes are about to take place.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
1 Down
3 to Go
HOLLAH!!!
November 24th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
It’s funny to me that Courtney Lee was so upset that he was going from the Magic to the Nets , doesn’t he realize that as Nets fans we were losing VC’s 25-5-5 for his 8-2-1 per game.
Also why does Lawrence frank keep playing point guards at the shooting guard position , SG’s at the PF position and PF’s at the center position. If your playing 1 center and 4 guards the other team’s PF will post up and out rebound our guards all game.
One last thing , how in the world does our 0-14 coach still have a job ???
November 24th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
There’s nothing they can do anymore….they just have to keep on fighting
November 24th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Brook seems to be doing the same thing that happened to Krstic after he emerged. Frank found out he could shoot – and since Frank likes to keep his centers out, just leaves them there to shoot.
Maybe its Frank. Or maybe Lopez is just getting physically worn down from being the only legit bigman on the roster.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
The coach has to go. He started off 14 – 0. Let him leave at 0 – 14. Oh, And Golden State smoked Dallas with six guys tonight…
November 24th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
@jason
Lopez should not be the shooter to keep the opponent center out of the paint.
He should post up more, so our guards can get more wide open looks.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
FIRE FRANK. And some one please duck tape bOBBY sIMMONS to the bench. By playing him we are not only hurting our team but we are also hurting his already low trade value. This season is a joke.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
lol
November 24th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
@TheBurger King. I agree. We need a new voice. The warriors played 6 guys and beat a powerhouse team. Too many excuses for Frank. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt but he is lucky he’s been here for as long as he has. If we never got Carter he would have been gone a while from now.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
I can’t believe a 0-14 coach still has his job. For the past three years, players came and gone, but the coach remains. That’s how and why the Nets gets into this position.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
@ ben – Mark Jackson until we get Bosh and then a real coach (Brown).
November 24th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Stop Playing Hassell!!!
November 24th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Not even Mark Jackson, he has never coached, but I actually think he is intelligent enough to get his players to fight and win games
November 25th, 2009 at 12:00 am
It’s really disheartening. I mean why and how can one watch these games? Portland and L.A. = losses. Sacramento, why would I think they can win this game? Fire the coach. Make a trade. DO something. This is making me ill.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:06 am
I don’t think Brook and CDR was involved in the offense enough, especially Brook. Even though Brook was in foul trouble, I thought we could’ve gotten him the ball a lot more. Our matchups were horrible, I don’t get why we continue to play small when it’s been proven many times that it’s not very effective.
We also have horrible shooters, it seems like no one can make an outside shot, especially beyond the 3 point line. Last year we were one of the top 10 teams in 3 point percentage, now we are at the bottom of the league.
I think we just don’t have enough talents to win any games right now.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:08 am
0-14…lol
Just 4 more losses and the record is all ours. What an accomplishment this will be. Let’s destroy that record.
0-82 Here they come…lol
Go Nots…
November 25th, 2009 at 12:10 am
No one ever said Lee was as good as Carter. And he was probably disappointed about coming here because the team sucks, in case you hadn’t noticed.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:11 am
Foul trouble killed this team early on
they need to put frank out of his misery
November 25th, 2009 at 12:12 am
man it was so painful once again…. to the people who are saying that Brook should post up more… the team was doing a bad job getting him the ball. And Alston… great guy, and sure, he scored 19 points tonight. But normally the guy just can’t shoot. You just know it’s a miss when he shoots. I was surprised he hit a couple of 3’s actually. But damn man, once again what a tough game to watch.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:20 am
How much longer can the team go on like this.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:21 am
L. Frank should be fired the day after thanksgiving. I think the Nets should allow him to enjoy the holiday with his family, he’s not a good head coach but I think he’s a likable guy. Just give him that dignity and then Friday let him know he’s gone.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:22 am
I agree. I blame this all on Alston. Great guy, yeah, so its a shame.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Yi will soon be back to the rescue. Bulked up and ready to go SuperYi. Yippie Yie Yi you are the one for me.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Guh! The best part about that game was my question on Ask the Announcers asking if Brook Lopez should grow a mustache.
…if I do say so myself.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:51 am
@Dirk
lol, you are funny.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:55 am
cmon fans lets root for the nets breaking the worst record!
November 25th, 2009 at 1:39 am
I still believe the nets will win the championship this year.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:31 am
I can’t believe no one has commented on the Boone airball from the free throw line. That shot was more embarrassing than the 0-13 record. And you can blame the coach to a certain extent, but why can’t equal blame be placed on the players that can’t get the job done?
November 25th, 2009 at 4:36 am
LOL, yeah what a shame, an airball from the FT line, I think i havent seen better players (ie Shaq, B. Wallace) do that before. Check Rondo’s FT %. But yeah, I think Boone’s FT is more embarrassing than the worst record in NBA history we’re about to break, led by Larry “Coach of the Year Candidate” Frank.
Btw, Boone did an overall nice job, grabbing 12 rebs in 21 minutes.
Ah, did I watch Trenton Hassell playing PF against Andersen and KMart? Did I? Now that’s embarrassing. Frank is a genius, I love small ball!

This team is a mess, it’s not about injuries, it’s about inability of really coaching.
Really? Not about injuries? No coach can improve our team right now. Brook can’t post up because he has a better perimeter shot than most of our guards. You don’t think the team will be much better when Dooling, Hayes, Yi and Battie come back? No coach can fix Josh Boone’s lack of testicles at the free throw line, or Sean William’s foul problems, or Bobby Simmons’ lack of a midrange game. It’s just a harsh reality we all have to accept. The players that are healthy right now can’t win games because THEY STINK, PERIOD.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:03 am
coaching this, coaching that, my @ss … Why bother with all this noise? you might as well just lock all comments out.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:23 am
One thing that I have been noticing is the lack of ball movement. Even high school ball players can work within their offense and keep the ball moving. Possibly its the bad start inspiring individuals to try and make something happen- sticking the ball in mud. One or two passes are made and then, whether a shot is open or in rhythm, someone feels the need to create. Passes aren’t being made off the pick and rolls. Sharp cuts are not being rewarded. Thusly, players are less inspired to make those hard rolls or cuts because they know the ball isn’t coming. Surely the coach has some blame here but more so it’s a total lack of execution on the players’ part. Lack of faith in teammates as well. It doesn’t even resemble team basketball out there.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:44 am
Reasons Frank should be fired.
The Nuggets starting 5 have 4 potential all stars and players like Birdman Anderson and JR Smith would start on the Nets.
When Brook had to go to the bench early in the game the Nets frontline was Boone, Williams and CDR playing against Kmart, Nene and Mello.
If Frank can’t get THIS front line to dominate Denver’s then he sucks as a coach and should be fired. I agree this loss is totally on Frank and talent had nothing to do with it.. The Nets are stacked with talent according to the posters here… I mean he had Kareem and Hakeem Olajuwon on the bench and Frank refuses to play them…
November 25th, 2009 at 6:26 am
lets break this record!
0-20 I say
LETS GO NUTS!
November 25th, 2009 at 6:29 am
depression sets in
November 25th, 2009 at 7:07 am
Yeah this is getting ugly. I think kiki should Coach the team, he ain’t doin shyte anyways. Now is the time to trade Alston. The Nets need another PF.
Boone is offensively inept.
Battie and Najera are too old
Swill should have played more last year
Call Utah and get AK or Boozer
November 25th, 2009 at 7:17 am
Thank you Thorn and Kiki for assembling the worst team in the NBA. Look around and you will see that other teams have balance and decent players at each position. Even Minnesota. But for the second year in a row they have assembled a team with nobody at the 4 and nobody at the 3. And pretty much not much at the 2. This is inexcusable for two years running. Yi is a joke as a starter but they blew smoke at us and tried to convince us he was the new Yi. Simmons is no longer a starter at 3. Then you take VC out of the equation and try to sell us Lee. No, this is a joke of a team. But what is sad is they try so hard and fight like their coach, but what can you do with nothing?
November 25th, 2009 at 7:22 am
Brook??? I get the sarcasm!!!!
What????? The Nets dominate the Nuggets front line??? That is probably the best front line in the NBA. Nene and KMart are beasts who play very physically – which Nets are allergic to – and Melo is just on another planet. Think about it. None of our front line players would start on this team and only one – Lopez – would be in the rotation. In fact, everyone of our players would be on the bench or DNP. Let’s be real. We are a team with the least talent in the NBA.
November 25th, 2009 at 7:40 am
Bobby Simmons needs to stop shooting everytime he touches
Twill needs to stop shooting everytime he touches
Boone needs to learn he is in the nba
Courtney Lee sucks
Harris cannot get fouled anymore
I dont know how a team could go 0-14 and still have a coach any other teams coach would have been gone!
November 25th, 2009 at 8:26 am
You guys want to know why Lopez isn’t posting up more, look at the team’s three point shooting. He is getting pinched hard in the post and his turnovers are way up because of it lately. The Nuggets either pinched or trapped him on each of his touches. He passed out like he was supposed to and nothing came of it.
November 25th, 2009 at 8:29 am
@Randy Oreens
Boone is in the NBA now but he won’t be for very much longer.
Grabbing 7 or 8 uncontested rebounds and having a couple of offensive rebounds slip away from Nuggets into his hands is not going to fool scouts who watch tape and don’t pay much attention to box scores.
November 25th, 2009 at 8:37 am
How are people still defending Frank??? We’ve been saying this since last season when he had Carter guarding Odom and we’ve been saying it for 14 L’s in a row (not to mention preseason)…. SMALL BALL DOES NOT WORK. We got trampled defensively, ran into a brick wall offensively, and got out rebounded all night.
We won’t go on a 15 game winning streak when he’s fired, but at least we’ll lose with some dignity… Then we can blame poor play. But right now, there isn’t even an opportunity to win with these boneheaded coaching moves. Simmons wouldn’t even be im uniform on any other team.
November 25th, 2009 at 9:24 am
Golden State beat Dallas with 6 players.
November 25th, 2009 at 9:52 am
Yeah, Golden State beats Dallas with 6 players, there’s no way being properly coached and prepared knowing your roles could have any effect on a team. The excuses for Larry Frank are laughable. This isnt the first season he’s been pathetic. Even with injuries you can see when a team loses because of the personnel they have and when they lose because of poor coaching. I bet some ppl here believe in E.T. too.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:17 am
Exactly, Frank clearly didn’t not spend enough practice time teaching the players how not to dribble off their foot. He’s responsible for all 24 of those turnovers.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:17 am
It’s not Lawrence Frank’s fault… let’s be honest here.
The plays are created, shots are created, and they are just flat out missed… if you have no one on the team that can knock down shots consistently, you end up shooting 30-40% as a team which is just not going to win games against good teams.
That’s why the Nets played the Knicks, 76ers and TWolves closely. No dominant players, low shooting %’s.
It’s not Frank’s fault — he will fall on the sword as all coaches do…but when you trot CDR, TWill, Lopez, Hassell, and Alston onto a court and expect to win games, what can you really do? Alston is a decent PG, TWill and CDR are raw and adjusting, Lopez cant find his mid-range shot which is what made him excel last year, and Hassel is a Defensive 10th man.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:23 am
The definition of insanity, in drug and alcohol treatment groups, is a person who tries the same thing over and over again, expecting good results, but ending up with the same bad results, and they do not try to change their behavior.
Lawrence Frank is insane. Starting Hassel and Boone last night just proves my point.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:29 am
We must get Frank some counseling and treatment as quick as possible. And what the heck is he reading on that piece of paper he carries with him. I bet it must bet the players daily horoscopes. Enough of feeling sorry for Frank. Fire him on Black Friday.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:30 am
The Nuggets had 60 points in the paint last night, and Carmelo only took one shot outside of 20 feet. The reason? You had CDR/C. Lee trying to cover Carmelo and you had Hassell on Kenyon Martin. Hassell is your best match-up on Carmelo and yes Josh Boone is awful but he is a big body and should have been in the game whenever Martin was in the game.
I know it isn’t all L.Frank’s fault, but he isn’t putting this team in position to win, and without Vince to bail him out, the team is losing.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Too late to fire Frank as much as I want him gone. The season is over for the Nets. So now they should be in a preservation mode. Play potential stars at a minimum just to maintain their skill but to prevent injuries. Trade or release people they would not need in the future. Pick up players from the D league on the cheap. Who knows they may discover a gem.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Only saw the first half and what stood out was that the paint defense was absolutely awful. As well as how dumb B-Lo played.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:56 am
@Sebastion
Not sure if you saw the start of the game. But Hassell was guarding Mello and Boone was guarding Kmart until Lopez picked up 2 fouls to start the game. I think the Frank should be fired. But I also think most fans don’t know what they’re talking about. The smallball stuff happens because other the Nets big men suck.. Not sure who else you want him to play?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Kenyon Martin summed up the Nets’ situation inn one word: “Turmoil.” And then Martin, who left the Nets for the Nuggets in the summer of 2004, summed up the reason for the problems in two words: “Bruce Ratner.”
“When you let people who have never played the game of basketball make decisions, that’s what you get. Bruce Ratner came in and made decisions and it affected everything from that point on. The blame for that has to go somewhere. It can’t always be on the players,” said Martin.
nuff said
the sooner ratner is out of any basketball decisions the better
give rod thorn some money to work with and let him operate with his unique skill set
November 25th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Yes 4 more loses. Record time. I don’t see anything that will prevent this,I am thinking probably 25 straight loses. They had a chance against the Knicks but that’s it. The loss against Minnesota could have prevented this but because of a stupid coach we lost that one and now NETS will have the record. And let’s continue saying changing the coach will not do anything, I guess so, we should have change him before the start of the season. Let ’s just enjoy the record and continue to be the worst NBA team. I always see players get injured and put on “day to day”, I think Frank is also injured but not obvious, and wish somebody put him on the 17th game “day to day” also. I think he have “ZERO FLU” worst than swine flu , the symptoms are lack of energy, irritability with constant yelling, doesn’t know how to wear a tie, convoluted diagram (”or is it diaphragm”).
November 25th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
supreme – I was watching the game, and I saw how he replaced Brook with Sean Williams and took out Boone to slide Hassell to the 4. I assume he did it to get more scoring on the court, but this team isn’t going to outscore anybody, if they are going to get a win, it is with defense and keeping your best defensive lineup out there. It is why we were competitive in Miami and why we weren’t yesterday. I say you but Sean Williams at the 5, Boone at the 4, Hassell at the 3, Devin running the point and CDR/C. Lee/T-Will at the 2.
November 25th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
I don’t know why people like to play Swat at the 5? To me when Boone and Swat are together Boone should be the 5. When Battie comes back I hope he becomes the backup 5. Of course Swat will never get off the bench when that happens but the coach might not get a win before he’s let go.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
@supreme – Were you watching last nite. After Brook got fouls Swat came in for Brook and shortly thereafter Simmons came in for Boone. Small ball begins and uncontested looks in the lane is the result for Nuggets.
@Mr. Big is correct. Swat is 6′8″. What is he doing playing 5? Wouldn’t it be nice to have Curly as the back up center. Saw him last night as OKC beats Jazz in Utah, Had to turn it off. Can’t blame that one on Frank can we Rod?
Didnt matter last night tho. How many times did CDR bounce the ball out of bounds of his foot? Hoping he will bounce back.
Can Brook get a bit tougher and just hold his position and demand the ball in the low post instead of constantly running out to the perimeter for pick and rolls that never happen. I will blame that on Frank but cmon Brook lets show a little something… he gets a pass for now tho.
Watching last night I actually got the feeling that Thorn will have to pull the trigger and that Frank might be gone soon after all; Still say it does not matter this year regardless. We have to set our sights on beating out the Twolves. Is John Wall BPA? Highligts looked pretty good last night but still would prefer a big. One benefit to Nets performance, it has renewed my interest in college ball which I usually don’t pay attention to until NCAA time.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
@Netnuts & Sebastion
so you think that the better move is having Boone and Swat in the game together because they were going to STOP Mello Kmart and Nene? That’s what you thought would have given us a chance to win? Swat and Boone was the answer? Or did you think we had some other super star big men on the bench waiting to come in? And the score is 22-14 no less and you wanted the offensive tandem of Swat and Boone? And you say Frank doesn’t have a clue? hmmm
November 25th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Soon Frank teh “coach” will be gone. And some other “lucky guy” will take his place LOL what a spot. Hopefully soon some of the Nets “players” will come back. Hopefully Simmons Hassell Alston Najera and Battie stay on the bench. And these 10 Nets will play:
Harris/Dooling
Lee/Twill
CDR/Hayes
Yi/ S. Williams
Lopez/Yi
But you know they willl lose many may games there are maybe 3.5 legit players in that group. I hope next yer Santa brings me:
Harris/maybe Dooling/player
CDR/maybe Lee/player
$$$/T.Will/player
$$$/maybe Yi/player
Lopez/player/player
Oh yes. I’m not satisfied with the current product. I’m a bit jaded about the present of future talent level of many many of the current group.
November 25th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
I meant to but the immortal Boone at the back-up C spot for the rest of this wonderful season. Not Yi. LOL Yi at Center.
