Terrence Williams had his second career double-double–and first NBA start–Wednesday, but it was too late for Thursday’s rookie rankings. Too bad. It might have solidified them. SI has TWill at #6, NBA.com has him at #9, but ESPN has dropped him all the way down to #20. “We are throwing a lot at this guy,” Lawrence Frank says of Williams. “I think he’s done a very good job.”

I think T-Will, for all he has been asked to do, namely everything, is the top overall rookie so far this year. Once he learns how to get his points, watch out.
P.S. Is Jennings really a “rookie”? Didn’t he play in a Italian pro league last year?
November 12th, 2009 at 9:43 am
@Mike
It was one year, and he’s one year out of high school like everyone. And not like he dominated or whatever. If he was playing in the Euroleague for 4 years you could make that argument, but it was one year. He’s totally a rookie and it’s totally legit
November 12th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Yeah, Jennings apparently is looking great. I am sort of glad Milwaukee won the coin toss and got to pick ahead of us. Jennings was never on our radar and we would not have selected him even if he were there, so we don’t have to play the ‘what if’ game. I am happy with TWill. I think his shooting percentages will improve in time, and I think if he didn’t feel so much pressure to try to create offense with the very limited team we are fielding right now, his percentages would be a bit better.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:23 am
I wonder if the Nets would of drafted Jordan Hill if they were picking 8th. Shows you what a crap shoot the draft can be. I’m very happy with T-Will.
P.S. I’m really, really happy I’m not an “ESPN Insider”. T-Will, 20th?
What a bunch of morons.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:03 am
if the nets had lost one more game than the bucks, jennings would have been the nets’ choice since larry frank had his eye on the guy going into the draft…or johnny flynn if he fell further which some people were saying…tyreke evans was not expected to drop and he didn’t…
November 12th, 2009 at 11:14 am
i like t-will though…i was just mentioning the stuff going around right before the draft…
November 12th, 2009 at 11:16 am
I am very happy with TWill. I think he was the perfect fit for our team. The only thing that still upsets me is that we did not buy or trade for an early second round pick to take DeJuan Blair or Jodie Meeks…..These guys were such a value in the 2nd round – and we were too cheap to do this. Even if it required sending someone to the D-League or buying out a contract – this was the right choice.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:19 am
I think the ironic thing is that the Knicks have totally screwed up in the 1st round the past 2 years. Massive mistake taking Gallinari instead of Lopez. And taking Jordan Hill over anyone looks like Isiah back running the team. Actually the only thing he did ok was drafting….
But buying the last pick to take Toney Douglas was a great move. My favorite steals going into the draft were Douglas and Meeks.. Both of whom are working out well thus far.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:31 am
How about the Knicks not owning their # 1 pick this year. They might end up with the #1 overall pick in the 2010 draft and have to hand it over to Utah. Makes me glad to be a Nets fan.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:58 am
Mike, as a Nets fan be prepared to finish dead last but lose lottery to Knicks (Utah)
November 12th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
There’s no ceiling in sight yet for TWilly. He gets better all the time. His limitations and mistakes are rookie things. This guy is really fun to watch.
@Mike ….I agree, being an ESPN Insider is pretty much being a sucker. There’s SOME good content on ESPN.com but I keep feeling like they are contemptuous of their readers.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Let the kid start and build on his game. By the time Harris, Lee , yi , dooling and Jarvis are back on the floor he will have built up a rythem.
Plus he can rebound , defend and find the open guy. Simmons is a joke.
PS. I’m not a big fan of Najara but I did like his hustle last night.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Looks like NO fired Scott. Can you believe that LFrank Nets coaching career has outlasted BScott 2 coaching tenures?!?! wow.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
I was just gonna say, how long til people start posting to bring back Scott to replace Frank
ugh…
November 12th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I think T-Will is what this team needed. He gives us flexibility in not 2 but 3 positions. I don’t think we would have got Jennings because we already had 3 PG on the roster already. He didn’t really showcase enough in his workout for him to be ahead of Flynn. Adding him wouldn’t have made sense at the time.
Flynn is a different story. I think he has great potention on running a teams offense. If he was on the board I would have taken him and traded Rafer A. I wouldn’t touch Hill with a 10ft pole. Not with this draft class coming up.

Why does Frank allow a rookie to make the “make or break” shot of the game? Whatever to the veteran squad of the team. Has the TWill done this in college?
November 12th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
I think he will be a keeper. Very versatile and great work ethic. 2 double doubles this early in makes me wonder if he is “kidd like” and should be at the point.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
If we dont get the 1st pick, I hope the Knicks get the #1 pick. Unless they go for BPA, Utah doesnt need another PG. They do need a PF/C. Then the draft may shift and Wall might not get picked #1.
November 12th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
You have to see how the college season plays out, but if Wall is head and shoulders BPA then I think Utah would take him despite the precense of Deron. As PG heavy as last year’s draft was, this season seems equally bim man heavy. Beyond Wall, I am not sure if right now there is a college PG that is projected to be a lottery selection.
November 12th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
@ Chris 2
There is a huge dropoff in talent in the pg pool. I don’t think they would take Wall… I know he is talented but I think they will go with the PF. I think D. Will is solid and can bring stability there.
Which PF would you prefer the Nets get as of right now? Ed Davis, Derrick Favors, or Donatas Motiejunas? Curious what you all say.
November 12th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
I usually believe in taking the best player available in the draft, but we need a PF. Unless we get one thru free agency, we got to address this issue at PF, that has been going on for years now. Maybe we even try to get 2 PF’s in the draft. How many wings do we really need? The funny thing is that the draft takes place before the FA’s can sign. Should be interesting.
November 12th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Based on all the talk amongst analysts, Derrick Favors would seem to have the most upside amongst the big men. So I would like to take him if we get the 2nd pick. I don’t think I want Donatas, he is 7 foot and has barely shown an ability to rebound the basketball so far in the leagues he plays in. He seemingly is purely potential and I want us to win big next year….if we can get a draft pick ready to contribute and a big free agent signing, I think the goal has to be to go deep into the playoffs next year. Overall, I am holding out hope for the top pick and Wall. He seems like a can’t miss prospect. If we get him, we can trade Harris for a big man, or for a cheap young talent along with some cap space. Perhaps enough to go after 2 max free agents. The pieces can really fall into place if we win the top selection in the draft.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
How bout Tim Ohlbrecht? I saw him play a couple of times and he could be had in the second round. Granted we will have a high pick but I see him as the Nenad Kristic we had before. Tough break he had all those injuries. I though he was apart if our future.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
@Chris@ Says: Next year T.Battie/E.Najera/R.Alston/B.Simmons/S.Williams are all gone and the draft is not weak as you may claim.
The Nets have Boone at PF this year. Next years draft they should be looking at G.Monroe/PF & C.Aldrich/C with their two picks. You may Why? Becaus ethe two important needs are Bacjkup center and starting PF. Forget about talent that you like. Its about what the team needs to fill out its roster to compete with 14 guys and win. Just watch college ball and watch the two [players I mentioned and you will see that they are the picks of need/talent for the Brooklyn Nets! With Boone becomeing a restricted free agent. Whom is going to pay him a raise based on his performance and career? There is a thing called salary cap and beforwe you know it Lopez and others contracts will be coming up for renewal. Its about Money to.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
I would like to see Boone resigned to stay as a backup PF/C. I do not think Cole Aldrich is worth drafting. If you go the backup center route – Solomon Alabi is head and shoulders above him – with less name recognition.
Having 2 picks in the 1st round – means the Nets have to go BPA with their pick (could be top 3 pick). If you pick #1 – I think you have to take John Wall (if he dominates his season). You then start Wall at PG, shift DH to SG, TWill is your starting SF, and Brook at center. This is especially true if Dallas collapses and fails to make the playoffs – giving us a 2nd lottery pick.
With the 2nd pick you have to go for a big man – and then you have to make a run at Bosh in free agency. I would rather see Bosh rather than Lebron with the way the roster is shaping up.
Then off the bench you have Lee and CDR at the SG/SF positions along with YI and Boone.
This is a playoff team.

It’s very early, but Terrence Williams is a BUST so far.
The guy is shooting 35.8%. That’s horrible! Also, for an allegedly good ball handler, he has a 1:1 Assist-turnover ratio, which is awful.
The Net’s wing positions are really, really bad. Courtney Lee has been awful, as has Terrence Williams. Maybe they will get better, but so far, it’s been a horror show.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
I’m still waiting for that posterizing dunk from TWill.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
I think TWill will have a similar career arc as Rajon Rondo. His shooting percentage is lower right now because he is feeling the pressure to produce offense out of nothing, as opposed to picking his spots within the flow of a fluent offense. He is turning the ball over too much but it is common for rookies to make the types of mistakes TWill is making. In a couple of years he will be a very good NBA player.

I don’t trust guys who just use statistics to make their case. Reminds me of a insurance salesman.
November 13th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
twill may be good someday, but let’s not kid ourselves. right now he stinks. his shooting % and turnovers are pathetic.
