With four starters out, the Nets weren’t expected to keep Saturday’s game with the healthy Celtics close for more than a few minutes. But the winless Nets put up a fight, and after three quarters, they had a two-point lead. But Boston took the lead for good early in the fourth, made nine of their first 12 shots in the period and held on for a 86-76 win. The Nets held the Celtics’ big three somewhat in check, but shot 43 percent from the field and turned the ball over 24 times. Brook Lopez led all scorers with 23 points and Rafer Alston added 20 points and seven assists. At 0-7, the Nets are off to the worst start in franchise history.

well im proud that we stayed in it and didn’t get blown away. can’t ask for more than a competitive game.. hopefully we’ll get our first win against the sixers.

Uummm can we say the “worst start for this francise in nba history” i know ya heard marv say that…smh i’m glad i jumped ship when carter and ryan left. Another game you guys could have won, but Lawrence Frank lost it and got out-coached again. Didn’t even have half the starters for the game and it was close and they couldn’t bang this out on a night the celtics were awful? Just embarrassing.
I won’t be surprised lopez DOES NOT re-sign with the nets, because lebron is definitely NOT coming here.

At least we played hard against a good team. I actually thought we had a chance to win. Boone missed two easy shots down the stretch to cut into the lead, and we did get stops too. I thought Skip played good, and Brook Lopez did good too.

Yeah can’t complain. We were in the game…If only Boone could finish offensively he would be pretty good. I think it’s clear when players start returning that najera nor simmons should get time. Brooks shot was crazy good

The Nets held far longer and better than anyone expected. It’s not just the Celtics were bad, it was just the Nets, with 4 starters down, wanted the game. Now if anyone expected a win, then go to pet your unicorn. A win wasn’t possible, a good fight, improbable, but that happened.
Rafer Alston – Needs to watch his passes. Sometimes, he still thinks he’s in his streetball days, and as a basketball coach, I cannot believe such a pro continues to pass every single pass with one hand. Most of the passes were directed badly after tossing one-handed outers when caught in a difficult situation.
Terence Williams – I’m liking this guy more and more. OK, he makes mistakes, he’s a rooke, but he’s got some attitude. He doesn’t give a damn if it’s Garnett in front of him. The way he dribbles the ball, he reminds me of MJ, his attitude reminds me of MJ. The way he jumps to get his rebound, the way he dribbles into the defenders will tell you one thing. That guy’s got some attitude. It’s only a matter of when his skills and experience catch up with his atittude. He’s gonna be a star, an allstar, just wait a few years. You’ll see.
Trenton Hassell – Today’s performance was on the low side. His defence suffered, and he took a lot of difficult shots in the offence. He’s agressive, and I love that about him. He wants the ball more than anything else, and that makes him a hustle player.
Eduardo Najera – See T. Hassell
Sean Williams – I was surprised that after his first more-than-satisfactory outing, we didn’t see more of him later in the game. Najera wasn’t there today, so I expected SWILL to be put in the court for more minutes. He’s not a lost case.
Brook Lopez – Brook is doing exactly what the Nets need him to do. His outisde shot is becoming deadly, and he’s moving backwards every game. Don’t be surprised if he starts shooting three pointers soon. Until now, he didn’t improve his rebounding from last year, and should fight more for his rebounds, to get at least 9-10.
Josh Boone – We do not need Boone to go 20-20. We need Boone to rise up to the occasion just like he did today. He was agressive, but he missed too many shots from under the baskets, which admittedly, were easy shots. Goes for the rebound much better than Boone, but fails to be any danger from outside the key.
Bobby Simmons – Finally, he scored a couple of treys. This guy can do better than 10 points, especially in such a situation. He’s slow, and he looks bored. I expect him to be better. Unsatisfactory.
Just one last thing. Don’t be too hard on the Nets, we missed 4 starters.

Alston stinks. I blame everything on him. Careless mistakes the entire game. If he is going to look up while dribbling, he needs to practice that in the gym first. GAH!
On the other hand, great D. The Celtics basically took 90% of their shots fading away from distance. KG is pathetic. A power forward should NEVER have a FG% that low. if your that tall.. take it to the rim!

Alston got some good buckets, but at the same time he’s sloppy with the ball….And he took lots of bad shots/forced shots towards the end of the game.

We were in it till the end of the forth quarter. What was different? LFRANK didn’t have too many subsitutions to make, so he just let them play. Brook played well, except for two many long jumpers. Overall, turnovers killed us, and the real Trenton Hassell showed up shooting 1-7. Our team is not in good enough shape to play 7 players, many of who don’t usually play 38 or 44 minutes a game. But we were in the game, till the last part of the 4th. A few less stupid turnovers and poor passes and we could have won this game. That’s four winable games out of seven games. What happens when he get our team back?

Boone should be told to NEVER shoot within 2 feet of the hoop.
Alston should be told to NEVER handle a basketball again.
That said, I’m so proud of these guys, They are fielding a semi pro team against a championship team and making it close.
Hats off.

I don’t think I saw the same game the Frank saw. But what does SWAT have to do to buy minutes in the game. I believe that the defense was tight with SWAT in the game. HE did nothing special outside of his game. HE did what was expected rebounded, blocked, and made a few shots.

The 8 guys we had played hard and did all I could have reasonably asked. It would be easy to pack it in. Esp. with all the expiring contracts.. BUT they play HARD and with PRIDE, unlike tonight’s oppoenents a couple of years ago when they tanked on purpose and unlike the Knicks. Unless Lawrence Frank could somehow shape shift into 1996 Michael Jordan and chose not to do so, I don’t know how you hang this loss on him. He is actually keeping guys motivated, unlike other similarly situated teams. LET’S GO NETS!

Lebron and Bosh are not pipe dream, IF we get to Brooklyn. And that’s strictly an off-the-court thing. We’ve got more $$$ than anyone and would have an owner willing to spend it. Lebron will end up with one of 3 teams, and we’re 1 of the 3. And with all our $, we would def get at least 1 top tier FA, barring almost everyone staying put, which I doubt will happen.

We tried hard against a contender. However I’m tired of seeing this team somewhat compete and just let it go at the end. I’m talking about past few games now. We keep losing key pieces and this is getting ridiculous. Should we sign some 1yr deals? I mean, this is just pathetic. If Najera is even in your option in last 20 second of close game(last one), that is just pathetic. I don’t know who can possibly come in and make this team worse. Do something. Show us that you are trying while going for the big ones next year.

Nice outing. Although the Celtics were not the Celtics tonight, we hung in there and lost the game due to our 23 turnovers. The turnovers were do to sloppy passing not the Celtics playing good defense.

Tonight proved that Trenton Hassell should drive to the basket rather than shoot. He creates opportunities when he drives to the basket.
Josh Boone is more comfortable at the PF position than at the center position. Nice game Boone.
Brook should stay away from the bounce pass or atleast whip it down much harder because I could have stolen many of those balls. Watch a couple of Jason Kidd’s old Nets highlights. All around good game for Brook. I like his 15 ft. shot, however, his success will be directly related to him learning how to post up the defender.
AGAIN, Terrence Williams should be a starter.

even though we lost, i saw something that i havent seen in past games.
the Nets played with alot of HEART, made alot of HUSTLE plays, and had really good CHEMISTRY.

I will give credit to the Nets for competing against the Celtics until the last few minutes. There are a lot of things that we can learn from these past few games. Like who can be a part of this team in the future, and who probably wont be.
Even though Alston scored 20 points tonight, I thought he played horribly with all of those turnovers. As the person who handles the ball more than anyone else, you have to take care of the ball.
Brook is getting deadlier with his outside game, and not so much with his inside game. I feel like he’s force to take those outside shots, because no one would pass him the ball when he is posting up in the inside. So he has to go out of his way to set a high screen, and get passes from there. That’s how I see it.
I thought Boone and T-Williams did well on the defensive end, but not so much on the offense. If Boone could’ve made those easy layups we might’ve won.
Sean did ok in his limited time on the court, not great, but not really bad.
For the rest of the group on the court I thought they played like usual, crap. I doubt these people will return next year.
I feel like our players are too selfish in that they care more about their own scores than to try and set up one of your teammates for a better higher percentage shot. I think the coach should make it mandatory that every person has to have at least 1 or 2 assists during each game. I think this will help us with our shot selection.
Hope we at least will get some players back by our next game.

Losing team won’t attract big names? Celtics story says otherwise. Garnett was convinced after Ray signed. Knowing there will be 2 max guys or 3 decent guys might convince some people.

I think so. There’s certain guys on the Nets that don’t give a damn about what happens on the floor and two of them were in suits tonite. The 8 guys that suited up and played the Celtics for 4 quarters, aside from CDR, were the guys that give a care about what happens to this team.
Kudos to the Nets. We are 0-8 and i see a lot of pride and professionalism coming from the guys that have played the last two games.

Since you’re no longer a Nets fan, why do you feel the need to come here and post? Don’t you have a life? a hobby? Perhaps you’d prefer to post on a site concerning a team of which you ARE a fan. The 7 guys (unless you count Sean’s 4 or so minutes) that played tonight – only 1 of whom was a starter – showed a lot of heart against a healthy Celtics team.
And why are people making excuses for the overpaid Celtics? An off night? Are you kidding me?! KG hit 3 of 13, Ray Allen scored 4 points over the first 3 quarters. With the salaries they get, if these guys were on the Nets, you wouldn’t be making excuses for them. They would be verbally tarred and feathered, with all sorts of trades proposed. An “off night” is when half of your team (and 80% of your starters) is too sick or injured to suit up and the half that can play is worn out from the game the night before. The Celtics played the night before, as well, but with a full roster.
The Nets didn’t always play with heart. Remember the “glass jaw” days? At least they’re out there fighting, even when no one on the planet thought they could win this game. They made it fun. So there.

By the end of the year, Nets fans will appreciate all these early losses. Until Prokhorov takes over, all the losses can be blamed on the Ratner era.
Once Proky takes over, Nets could play close to .500 ball and still be eligible for a top 4 pick, while also being attractive to a top FA – best of both worlds.
There will have to be at least one good trade before deadline – these games in Nov./Dec. are Not for Winning, but for Showcasing our players and developing the ones we want to keep – especially TWill.

Jerry – I agree with you. The fact that we are piling up the losses is not a bad thing when you consider that so many of our players are injured. We aregetting closer to the top 3 pick. Best case scenario – we get better as the year goes on, but when the core guys get healthy, i.e. Harris, Lee, Yi. When you really think about it there is not much to gain by winning a few games with Bobby Simmons, Rafer, and Trenton. They will all be gone next year. I do want to see Harris, Lee, Yi, Brook, CDR, and TWill play well together, develop some chemistry and a winning attitude. If all goes perfect, we could have a strong finish to the season, finish with like the 5th worst record, and still have the ping pong balls go our way to get a top 3 pick. I still think we are situated OK to have a good story to tell to the free agents. As far as the Knocks goes, they suck just as badly as we do if not worse, they have no draft pick next year, and they have to renounce the rights to Lee, Harrington, and Nate in order to sign the big free agent. So that team is bare. There are better days ahead.

I really can understand all the insults, it sickens me as a fan. Everyone played hard and gave it there all. Celtics are one of the best teams in the league and even on a bad night should have breezed through us, but they couldn’t. With just 8 men availble – and lets be honest, a mjority of them role players – we gave them a game. How often do you think this lines up ever hit the court in practice.
A great effort by everyone, and that includes Frank.

Wow, they played well! This is a hungry and proud team. I like them. I think T-Will is going to be a special player. His driving at the end was assume and when he leaps, even for his jumper, wow. I reminded of Miami in Wade’s rookie year. How they started horribly and then came on like crazy – T-will can carry us like that. I think this team is better defensively w/o CDR and Yi. They are so much more competitive defensively. Ray Allen is awesome. If we just had a go to guy like that!

At least the Nets were in it. The team was depleted but they had some fight in them. I can’t fault the effort of the players the past two games. They really tried. They kept close to the Celtics but in the end, Celtics just had more talent and weapons. You can’t really expect Iraq to win a war against the US. The Nets are missing a lot of weapons. All I ask is that they have a chance to win the game in the end.

Thanks for the over the top negative post. Most posters have been negative of late (not surprising at 0-7) but nothing brings out the true fan like a non-fan badmouthing the team. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”
And Lebron is coming. He knows talent and he sees it in our young team (quoted about liking Devin, you know he will love playing with Brooke and what’s not to like about TWILL – throw in young athletes like CLEE and CDR and you have a talented and FUN team). With or without a second time line FA, Lebron is coming….well assuming we get the Russian owner….and the new stadium…and a top line coach. If this happens there is no way he is going to the Knicks.
Why rebuild someone else’s legacy when you can create your own in the most exciting city in the world! The Lebron sweepstakes will come down to Cleveland and the Brooklyn NETS.

Who cares who is the PG now, I would say the next 10 games we might just win one or two, regardless we have a PG or not. I really don’t care. The NETS is pathetic but for the sake of future once everyone get healthy we will be set better.

The Nets situation is different from other losing teams due to pending sale to potentially a wealthier “Mark Cuban type” owner, and move to Brooklyn.
Actually, I recall Boston fans/announcers feeling good about losses ahead of pending top draft pick a few years ago.
Also, when David Robinson went down with an injury, that event marked the beginning of a dynasty with the Tim Duncan pick for San Antonio.

Iverson is NOT the answer (well besides in his nickname)! He adds a couple of wins and heaps of drama and conflict. He doesn’t want to be a role player on a rebuilding team. That’s the problem in Memphis. Same thing here, and also until we get our benevolent bolshevic benefactor, we’re not going to take that kind of contract.
And no PG would mean maybe the most embarassing performances in NBA history, which would be bad.
With the Triple B coming and such a tenacious showing, some of these guys might be back next year (it could happen).

It makes better sense that some Nets fans were rooting for some losses at the end of last season for a better lottery position. But to make perfect peace with a winless record at the beginning of the season was one of a kind.
And I have no idea why an impending sale would make the NEts more excusable for loosing, and I do not know how that’d explain the logic of “there is nothing to gain by winning some games” for a winless team. Are you saying because other loosing teams are not anticipating a new owner, which is why their fans do not make excuse for loosing? It doesn’t make sense.

Iverson is exactly what this team needs. We can’t have enough PGs that don’t like to pass, play defense, and care more about individual accolades instead of doing what the team needs to achieve victory.

LOL i cant wait to laugh at the nay sayers when and if Lebron comes here. It’ll be funny how everyone comes back. If you think about it. What was cleveland before 2003? The same as the nets in 2009. A team with little or no potential and no chance at even cracking the top 8. Lebron has a heart and a mind. It isnt all about the money with this guy. He led them to the Finals. No one else on the team in 2007 were anywhere near all star calibur. I believe he’ll be here. there’s no one else worth it. Lebron like Jay-z anyways Holla!
