Yi Out “Several Weeks” with Sprained MCLNovember 3, 2009, 2:33 pmThe Nets had a short (both on time and bodies) practice on Tuesday, and it will get worse. Yi Jianlian is out for several weeks with a sprained MCL. Trenton Hassell still isn’t with the team, but is expected back for Wednesday’s game. Lawrence Frank is happy with an improved defensive effort, and says that back-up bigmen positions are open, except now they’re not backup. On Tuesday, he went with Bobby Simmons and the four and Sean Williams at the five as a reward for hard work in practice. As much as I know we have a MASH unit playing out there so far…its tough to use that as an excuse when I look at what Houston has been doing for the last couple of years (Yao injuries, TMac contstant injuries).
They are playing with Trevor Ariza, Aaron Brooks, Luis Scola, Carl Landry, Shane Battier, and Chase Budinger. Im sorry.
That doesn’t sound like the 90s Bulls to me. But they play with great heart & hussle..and without “All Stars” they still pull out wins in the West.

Lets regroup and go after Denver tomorrow night. The bright side of all this injury mayhem is that everybody is going to get a chance to play. You are never as bad as you look when your going thru tough times. We still have very good young talent. CDR, Lee, T-Will, Yi, Lopez, Harris, are all talented young players. Sure some of them if not all are looking pretty bad right now, but thats what happens when your team is not playing well. Better days are up ahead starting with tomorrow. Lets go Nets…

I watched the game last night on the NBA league pass preview. My God!!!!! They are playing AWFUL and look every bit the worst team in the NBA. They should fire Frank right now – even though he is completely not the problem – they should give him a fair chance to get another job in the offseason. The players have tuned him out because obviously the franchise is in flux. And Devin Harris is a joke – they need to trade his a$$ while he has some value. He is a gunner who can never lead a team, doesn’t play defense anymore, doesn’t take care of the ball, and probably peaked last season. I still think he can be a good player when surrounded by better players, but he gets and F as a leader and I think the team should focus on T Williams as their PG of the future. Plus Harris can’t play more than 2 games in a row without getting injured. I’m wondering if he and Theo Rattliff aren’t secretly related.
This season is going to be somewhere between fail and epic fail, and I am starting to wonder if the climate of losing is going to mess up all the talented prospects they have. Look how well Ryan Anderson is playing now that he is in a winning environment. I’m starting to wonder if Orlando didn’t swindle Thorn the way Thorn normally swindles other teams!!!!

If the coach had Lopez, Swat, TWill, CDR and Alston left and everyone else was injured, he still wouldn’t know who to play. Here’s a bulletin coach. Try something you never tried before. It’s no mystery what you’re going to get with, Yi, Najera, TWill and Simmons at the 4. Does anybody really have to wonder why we suck?

What happened to Simmons? Guy was the best 3 point shooter last year but now cannot hit anything yet coach puts him in the game. Does he have some secret against Frank??? Cannot figure why Frank still plays Simmons.

Lets do some simple math.
1) Lopez = 1yr NBA experience
2) Yi = 2yr (Less with all his injury time deducted)
3) CDR = 1yr (More like 0)
4) Lee = 1yr
5) T-Will 0
6) D. Harris has more time in the NBA then those 5 players combined and he is only 26. What do you expect to happen. We
will take our lumps now but it should pay huge dividends down the road. Lets go Nets…

Putting Simmons at 4 is a decision that only Frank will make. Can anyone tell me if other coaches had played Simmons at the PF position before? NO, heck NO!!!
Saying this is for “MATCHUP” reason is the most idiotic excuse for his incompetency. If your strategy to “matchup” never really succeeded (as in Simmons at PF), then what REASON really was there?
Yes, I REPEAT! Putting Simmons at PF ALWAYS GAVE us a disadvantage. 90% of us have been pointing that out since last season. I can’t take Frank anymore, my god!

Those players above are far superior to the Nets starting 5 right now. Shane Battier, Landry and Scola are so much better than our forwards, so much. Lopez and Yi are playing poorly and the back up are horrible. The Rockets three would start on our team. Battier at the 3 or 4. Scola at the 4. Those are pros who have had good seasons. We have maybe, someday good players
And why is everyone worried if a guy plays 4 or 5? Yi is bad. Simmons is actually an improvement!

Am I the only one who’s been watching NB games differently since the Dounaghy excerpts came out?? Watching last night when the nets went up by 14, it was really amazing how suddenly all the calls went in favor of Charlotte and got them back in the game with bogus free throws without even making shots! It was surreal – just like dounaghy described it – the home team was down big and not making any shots, and voila, the refs come through, put NJ over the limit early with phantom calls, and sending Wallace and Augustine to the line the last 6 min of the quarter to get back in the game. All of a sudden NJ is in foul trouble, lead is down to 8, and you got the sense the Nets flow was ruined and they were doomed to lose. Maybe I’m just paranoid but it was as if Dounaghy scripted the whole thing!! Anyone else notice this???

Well, now Sean and Boone will get their chance. Too bad we don’t still have Anderson. Could use him now. Battie could help too. If Sean does not step up now and steal that 4 spot from Yi, he never will. The door is wide open for someone to walk in.

The Nets are right where they should be. Funny how everyone forgets this is a rebuilding year. The team is fun to watch, and players are developing their games. Coach Frank is doing an excellent job having the young guys on the floor when games are being decided, and letting players play through their mistakes. Wins are not important. In fact loses put the team in a better situation. Relax, enjoy the young guys, and watch the other teams for the free agents that will be needed to fill out next years roster ie {Felton looked good}. In time the shot selection will get better {Lopez, Lee}, + the turnovers will go down {T Will, CDR etc}.

This is the blow that will make this season a wrap. I am not saying this team was going to win a lot of games but when Yi went down last year the NETS were 18-18 I believe and then went down hill. We saw last night what happens when Yi goes down. This is going to be a long couple of weeks. If the NETS can win more than 5 games this month it will be a surprise.

The silver lining in Yi’s injury is that it gives Frank to make an even bigger fool of himself. If he starts Simmons at PF, I believe (hope) that will catch the attention of the national press and Frank will become a laughingstock. That should expedite his dismissal.

Absolutely – this is the way to go and see how they play as a tandem. It’s obvious Sean is not a low-post scoring threat, let Brook take care of the offense and hope Sean becomes a solid weak side shot blocker behind him.

My hope…that the Mavs get hurt and they fall into the lottery. Two lottery picks + $3 million could get you the #1 if the ping pong balls don’t.
Actually, none of this matters. Either the Nets will be sold to one of the richest men in the world and have a miraculous turnaround in the world’s most expensive, most iconic arena…or the team will be sold and play somewhere else NEXT season, that somewhere most likely being either Newark or Kansas City which has a brand new arena…just like Newark.

Why didnt he play Najera yesterday? Now he deserves to start!!!! This is what he did with Anderson last year. The guy gets no burn. Then you bench Yi, Anderson is our starter.

I don’t see what “talent” Yi has. He is slow and mechanical. He drives toward the rim and telegraphs his every move and then he is surprised when someone swats his shot or steals the ball. What talent? Blachy on Wash., now that is talent. Arenas is talent. Harris is talent. Yi is just a potential w/o talent. talent is not what a player might show some day. Talent is what Melo has. Yi has potential talent, but I still don’t see it much. CDR and T-Will seem to have much more talent to me. Yi went 17 then 12 then 6 then 4. See a pattern there? THat’s not talent.

The Nets should start Terrence Williams at the 4. He’s the best player the Nets have not already in the starting lineup or injured. Then, we’ll actually get to see the K-Mart T-Will comparison with them playing against each other. Frank likes going small anyways and T-Will has played PF already.

Boone seemed like an NBA player in 2007-08. He didn’t seem like one last year or this year. I know the Nets can’t afford to do this, but it would be nice if he could get minutes in the D-League to see if that helps. Alternatively, he needs to practice layups and free throws like a madman. He may just be short on NBA-level ability and coordination, though. It would be interesting to see if anyone would pick him up if we dropped him.

i’m dreaming that boone connects with t-will/alston on the pick-and-roll and returns to his 10pts/10reb form and SWat block shots like crazy again…he can’t defend the right way anyway so just let him be out of position and let him go after those shots…at least he’ll be doing something…i would also like him channel his aggression towards being an enforcer…that is currently a niche that is unfilled on the nets’ roster…hit someone back when a teammate is hit and put someone getting hot on the other team on his ass…

Calm down and just eat the loses as they pile up. Trades will not help especially with all the injuries the team has right know. It cannot be avoided we just have to deal with until next years draft. J.Boone should start now at the four next Lopez. I have been saying this from the begining of year. Just double digit rebounds and solid in the paint defense behind Lopez. The scoring comes from everybody else. When Yi comes back he stays with the second unit and then developes with a little hope into a solid contributor. Next years draft is key and hope we can get G.Monroe/PF C.Aldrich/C. G.Monroe is a high B-Ball IQ & a strong rebounder also can make his free throws. E. Davis is as stiff at the line. We don’t need him and wait for him to improve at the line like Boone. C.Adrich is a solid back up to Lopez whom can hit the free throws also. This is important for close out in the future when the Nets are playing for something called a champioship. Stop waisting time and talking about Favors etc. These two guys are the guys to get both at 6-10 solid rebounders High B-Ball IQ and very good free throw shooters. Now you have a team. Go Brooklyn Nets! Go Brooklyn Nets!

He’s been very aggressive going to the basket.
Much better than some of the other scrubs we have on our team..

I would just like to let Rod and Kiki know I’m available for the league minimum. I cant do any worse at PF than Bobby “glue shoes” Simmons or Eddie “6 years past my prime” Najera. If Frank really wants to reward Sean for hardwork in practice, then put him at the starting 4. What has Najera done that Sean hasnt? Najera in no way, shape, or form did anything to deserve to start. All he has been is injured and horrible. Take a chance on the unknown, at least you already know Simmons and Najera will suck at the starting 4.

Pretty much reminds me of last season when Yi had a respectible start of the season, then injured his finger and sucked really bad after returning from that injury.

True…True…True.. Except again, you got to be an equal opportunity basher (you did say team) but your focus is on the coach. This is not biddy basketball. Don’t let the players off the hook. The players on the Rockets are much better hard-nosed defensive minded players and were like that before Adelman (known for defense? IDK) and his staff got their hands on them. The Nets do need a major upgrade in coaching and talent level. No doubt.
@ Superb and Andres:
To me, Boone is a back-up C in this league, and not a good one at that. I would not start him at the 4. On this team, right now, Najera, Sean Williams, and unfortuntaly Simmons, who can’t play the 3 anymore, and can’t play the 4 either – although he’s fairly strong, are the options at the 4. I’d like to see S. Williams, see he maybe there is something there..please let there be something there. Boone should continue to back up foul prone Lopez. I think we already see what Boone is.
Against K-Mart, I think Najera is the best physical match-up. I think Simmons continues to get time aganst smaller PFs like Kmart, since Simmons has made shots in his career, and Frank will hope that he can he somehow score 10 points, which Najera and Sean Williams will have a very hard time doing. Boy – this is quite a train wreck.
