Yormark Denies Team is for Sale

September 8, 2009, 2:39 pm

Brett Yormark was on the FOX Business Network on Tuesday to talk about logos on practice jerseys, and when asked about a potential sale of the Nets, he denied that Bruce Ratner is actively seeking to sell the team. “We’re not open for business and for sale,” Yorkmark said after searching for the right words. He instead chose to phrase a potential purchase as investors looking to buy in. “We get a lot of inquires, especially now that we’re moving to Brooklyn. They see the asset value of the Nets.”

  1. Kevin Says:

    Whatever you say Yormark.

  2. Net Income Says:

In polite circles, this is called spin. Sports Illustrated, ESPN, the Star Ledger and NetsDaily have all reported the team is for sale…and their sources are not the same.

  3. TheMann Says:

And the Oscar goes to…..Brett Yormark

  4. JohnY Says:

nor am i actively seeking conjugal relations with members of opposite gender. however, if any sees my value and is interested in my buy in, then i’m open for business.

  5. libigman Says:

While Yormark is clearly a smart guy the spin he gives really makes him look bad. To say that after trading VC as a salary dump he is optimistic about this season and thinking Lee will be a “superstar” he just sounds silly. Why were the Nets the first to get a sponsor is cuz Yormark is a great salesman and the team is broke. I believe in a short time there will be so many sponsors on that jersey you won’t be able to tell what team its for. As far as the sale of the team, I guess everything is negotiable so it could be sold as part or whole. Ratner wants his project not the team.

  6. Mike Says:

Everybody assumes that new owners would make everything O.K. in Netsland. Of course, there is no guarantee of this. Sometimes the devil you know is better then the devil you don’t. If the Nets don’t attempt to sign or trade for a quality player that is available to them and is a obvious “no brainer”, because of money, then I would be concerned. Otherwise who really cares about business men like Ratner and Yormark.

  7. John at the Jersey Shore Says:

Translation: We’d sell the team in a second if we found a buyer stupid enough to make a long term commitment to be a tenant at the new arena and loose money year after year. But any smart buyer wants either the team plus the arena, or the right to move the team as they please. So…not for sale.

  8. Trenton Says:

    He’s a robot.

  9. Nets in 2010 Says:

If Yomark is such a great salesman then why aren’t we buying his BS?

  10. RD Says:

    Speechless

  11. The Black Prince Says:

hey look, i’m not complaining. he comfirmed everything i personally researched about brookln. after this court case is settled in october, nets are finally coming back 2 new york. it doesnt matter what he’s calling it, whether or not the team is for sell or if it isnt. the poitn is, there people interested, money is going to be coming in and brooklyn has never been closer to happening then it is now.

  12. njd Says:

i hate yormark so much that i didn’t even bother watching the video.

  13. NJ4Life Says:

    @Black Prince

There’s no blueprint or design for any arena, they haven’t broken ground, they’re reportedly up for sale and they’re bleeding money. I’d say that they’re further than they’ve ever been from getting this project done. The only thing they’re closer to is a deadline that was expected to have been met in 2006.

  14. Isaac Says:

After Ratner, Yormark is clearly the worst thing to ever happen to this team (outside of Drazen’s tragic death)

  15. Tal Barzilai Says:

I wonder if Yormark denies the fact that he sold his soul or even his brain when he became a yesman for Ratner.

  16. Fat Tony Little Says:

Yormarck is covered since he now has those reversible press releases! Simply flip it over when the team actuall IS for sale!

He also has a reversible resume for when he gets fired by the new owners. Oh wait- we’re not for sale. Silly me..

  17. NetRick Says:

@ Fat Tony… like the reversable reference.. Funny. To bad we can’t reverse ownership…

  18. JRoNZ Says:

    More breaking News:
“Brett Yormark denies he’s a duplicitous dillhole”

  19. Net Income Says:

an admission that the team is for sale would complicate a number of delicate negotiations the team is currently involved in.

There is always the distinct possibility that Ratner can’t sell the team…and he keeps it…or to be more precise, the current group keeps it, including Viola. If he wins at the Court of Appeals (and if he doesn’t, it will be a huge surprise), then he will have a better to play with in dealing with all sides. If he loses at the Court of Appeals and Brooklyn dies, expect a horrible death rattle ending with a sale to someone with a lot of cash who lives out of state. And NO ONE but the fans will care.

  20. NetsBall4Real Says:

I like to read body language and the first thting I noticed is that when asked about the team being up for sale thats really the only time during the interview where he began to stutter.

latest FCE financials have been released, and you guessed it, more losses stemming from the Nets

if you scroll down far enough, you will see mentioned that the Barclays center ground breaking is still planned for this year

  22. BrooklynJohnny Says:

    @ NI:
If by someone out of state you mean Charles Wang, I can live with that.

  23. bklnd Says:

Liar liar reversible jersey on fire.

  24. jb Says:

Net Income, is it possible to change the picture for Yormark related stories to a simple smiley face or something? Just seeing his face makes me angry… then I have to read the article, which is never good news. my doctor would thank you… high blood pressure is no good…

  25. blazin pp face Says:

    forget next summer everyone
this is the summer we’re all waiting for….
where the heck will this team be playing… will it be in Newark, Brooklyn, Saudi Arabia, Seattle ??

    stay tuned…. for the next 90 days….

  26. brokeland Says:

“if you scroll down far enough, you will see mentioned that the Barclays center ground breaking is still planned for this year”

    Impossible

  27. Paul Erstein Says:

This guy is so full of crap, not just about this, but about everything. He is a high priced/high profile used car salesman. At least when Thorn or KIKI get interviewed, they seem to tell the truth. This guy? NEVER!

  28. Andrés Says:

    I hate Yormark.

  29. Fat Tony Little Says:

    @Ispartan

I can’t resist the reference using your name:

    “This is madness!”
    “THIS. IS. YORMARCK!”

  30. Fat Tony Little Says:

Ok I misspelled his name, but the extra C stands for common cents. Because he sure isn’t going to make any dollars with this current fiasco.

  31. Mr. Dollar Bills Says:

    Liar liar, pants on fire

  32. halwas Says:

Ratner wants to find an investor (read: imbecile) who will buy his trainwreck of a team to a: rebuild the team and b: indefinitely pay rent to the new arena if and when it ever gets completed.

If I were Ratner – I’d start buying lottery tickets. The odds are better.

  33. Mike Says:

We spend alot of time in our lives worrying about things that will never or could never happen. Why worry, be happy.

  34. Isaac Says:

It is refreshing to see that so many of us are finally on the same page on this NEW JERSEY Nets fan board.
