Help!!!! Big Baby is more like a center and Hakim is more like a SF. PF is where we need most help. Why does Gooden go to Mav’s for less than the Mid-Level (we could offer that!). He’s gonna be behind Dirk. Doesn’t he want to start? He’d start here. O, yeah, he wants to win games and compete for a ring. Okay, Hakim is an upgrade over Yi, but is still small; Big Baby is a big upgrade and tough. Come on Thorn, the mighty Yi cannot anchor the inside. Get the big baby: Alston or Dooling and Swill and whatever else they want….. I hope there is a better plan than our underwhelming PF’s.

Gee, if I was Gooden and I had two offers, from the Mavs and the Nets, where would I go? Hmmm? One team made it to the second round of the playoffs, has one of the richest owners in sports, a great venue and a reputation for spending money. The other hasn’t been to the playoffs in two years, has an owner trying to sell the team, the worst venue in the NBA and a reputation for cutting costs.
Warrick would be fine. He is not a starter. He started 7 games last year, but he has four year averages of 10 and 6 coming off the bench. Davis would compete for a starting position at PF and he is a PF not a center.

Davis is not that good, and I highly doubt the Nets would spend the money it would require to sign him. Kerber called it a “long shot that probably won’t happen”. If they were willing to spend the money on him and try to make a S&T, I wouldn’t include Dooling nor Hayes. Give them Skip or Trent. I doubt we spend the money, so who cares, it probably won’t happen.
Warrick would be OK. I like Diogu, I think he would be cheaper than those two and is a more realistic option, IMO.

Hakim Warrick is more of a small forward which is what we need.

Warrick is 27 years old. Sign him to a one year deal, with a team option on the second. He is a good guy to bring off the bench at either position. He is a good guy, plays through injuries and is used to a bench role, having started only 7 games last year on a reallllly bad team.
And this is yet another indication that Sean Williams is gone and soon.

you are not a careful reader (if you are responding to me). I said Gooden was taking the team that competes and wins. I was wondering why he does not want to go to a situation where he could start….Last year behind Duncan; this year behind Dirk. With that resume, I geuss next year he’ll be behind KG and then…. Also, I doubt the Nets made an offer… Warrick is not the answer imo. We need a PF who can start if Yi cannot hold down the 4 (he has shown little evidence except his new biceps).

That is a misconception. The Nets CAN sign additional players BUT they have to dump them before October. They also have to pay them. The Nets sign multiple players for the training camp to non guaranteed or partially guaranteed deals (almost always with a second year team option in case they get lucky)

Of all the scenarios I’ve heard, he makes the most sense…considering the circumstances. Depends on how much you want to give him and how much other teams want him.
I also think they have to SAY something right now, considering the latest wave of bad publicity. Whether they DO something is something else again. Would Big Baby help them sell tickets? Some, but not many. Would Warrick? Nope. (Be an interesting locker room and media room with Big Baby and TWill. Personality plus.)

Can help Jarvis, Dooling, Bobby on the bench that offensive team would be awesome!
But have the nets signed anyone yet that they have shown intrest?
I really want Big Baby though the guy can be an awesome starter. Guys he started the playoffs in his second year we need him! Thorn cough up the money now!

Because unlike swat, Warrick’s produced results. And it’s not as if he was supposed to be this superstar coming out, he’s been a semisolid role player, as he should be. Swift was a top 3 pick

SWAT is out because of attitude and off the court problems. Thorn has learned his lesson it seems after McInnis,M Will, SWAT, etc.
Warrick would be a nice addition….not a savior but a nice component in rebuilding. We don’t want a player like Boozer that will make us 500 and tie up our money. We want a guy that can be part of the rebuilding AND when we add a free agent and a couple of picks next year can still be a part of the rotation. He is cheap and fills a need. He is a tweener but can def. guard some small forwards that Hayes and Simmons can’t and he is quicker than many power forwards. Also he came from a really bad team, and sometimes a new environment can unleash a lot of potential which he has…he could qualify as a fallen angel….bery low risk very big reward!

If we could somehow package Sean Williams, Josh Boone and Jarvis Hayes for someone like Jerome James, a bench player who realizes that he is indeed a bench player and seems to be quiet and happy enough in the role of getting minutes in times of injury, I think we could attempt to sign Warrick AND Big Baby. A buyout or outright benching of Simmons would allow us to play Big Baby and Warrick at the same time at the 3 and 4. I think that would be interesting.
I would be very interested to see a lineup at some point in the game of of Alston, Dooling, Warrick, Big Baby and Yi.

Jarvis Hayes is looking better and better. A few years ago he was a top ten draft pick. I like him better then anything currently out there.

Jerome James is only 1 garbage player. 1 Garbage Player for 3 Garbage players? Sounds like a good deal to me. He would serve no purpose other than to get some free space on the roster.

Jerome James contract expires at the end of the season too. Rather than having people complaining about playing time or sulking on the bench or in the locker room, you could have Jerome James being all sorts of old and huge.

Warrick’s impact on this team is shelving the small lineups that Frank has to put out there to get this team to run. Warrick is not a traditional 4 but he beats Bobby Simmons playing the 4. This team is going to run, and while some of you have to see it first before you can put the puzzle together… some people don’t. An athletic 3-4 fits nicely on the second unit with a running combo guard like Dooling, Terrence Williams, and Lee even if he is playing extended minutes with the bench guys

I’d like Diogu better, but Warrick would help us too. He is not garbage. He is an effective role player. Why do people call ‘garbage’ any player that is not resigned by his current team. By this logic, we would have said Dooling and Hayes were garbage last year. I don’t mind signing effective role players, as long as you get them cheaply. Don’t pay them to be something they are not.

Thats why I was really perplexed by the Najera signing last yr. Najera was Thorn’s “DOH!” free agent move last yr.

When talking about trading players I certainly would not trade Hayes or even Dooling, despite our recent influx of guys play the 1 and the 2. I also would definitely not trade Alston, he’s a talented vet who WANTS to be here. Let’s keep him around for a while.
