Trade Mirza Teletovic ?

I know this maybe a touchy topic for most but I would like to talk about Mirza Teletovic and his role with the Nets going forward. I think it is safe to assume that most Nets fans like what Mirza has contributed and his prospects for the up coming season. He had a fine playoff run and his value is high right now. That is why I would consider trading him mid-season for a pick. Why? I will defend my point.

  1. Mirza will be a free agent after this season. The Nets need not add any big contracts as they wait for the 2016/2017 free agent season. Mirza will want to get paid. Unless he would take a 1 yr contract, we should look to move proactively. Now if Billy King talks to Mirza's reps and he accepts a 1 yr deal, then that is something different. I am assuming that he and his advisers want more than a 1 yr contract.

  2. Mirza and Brook Lopez does not mesh well as starters together. As trade bait, Mirza has potential to garner the Nets a decent return via trade. However, long term Brook and Mirza are not a good PF/ C combo. Neither Brook, nor Mirza are physical players. They will combine for 10 rebounds a game. The middle of the paint will be vulnerable. Plumlee and Mirza is just not potent enough to win it BIG. With that being said, Mirza is a less than avg athletic stretch 4.

  3. Mirza averaged 8 pt per game last year. Many tend to think that with extended minutes that his production will translate into 18 pts and 9 rebounds per game. Mirza does not finish well around the rim. Andray Blatche average 11 pts 5 rebounds in 3 more minutes per game and shot better than Mirza from the free throw line. I am not stating to resign Blatche ( he must have done something really bad that we do not know about the way he Nets talk about him) but merely drawing a comparison. Mirza shoots 3's. That is his game. It is exciting when he is hot. But when he is cold...

  4. At 29 yrs of age (that will be his age at the start of the season), is Mirza our future? Our goal is in two years to have some attractive pieces to add around some quality free agents. Billy King stripped away our option of going to the draft to add young talent. We need to make bold moves to get young talent into this team.

In closing, as long as our core stays in tact, we will remain a competitive team. With or without Mirza, the Nets have fallen out of the title talk picture. With Mirza's pending free agency, at the age of 30 ( after this season going into next season) Mirza will want to get paid. The Nets must maintain their financial flexibility. Billy King has not looked long term for the Nets future as long as he has been here. If Deron Williams show himself to be healthy and Malik Brown shows a legitimate spark, then Deron would be the next to go. Without draft picks, I am not suggesting that the Nets strip the team down completely. I am merely stating that the Nets could trade away players that have value, that can can be replaced, yet will hinder our ability to sign free agents in 2016/2017.
