Bojan Bogdanovic and his Fenerbahce team had big dreams this season, but they failed at reaching two out of three goals: the mid-season Turkish Cup and the Euroleague championship slipped away as the team and player failed to meet heady pre-season goals.
Now, they're down to the final goal: the Turkish League championship and so far, they're up 2-1 in the seven-game series. We asked Savas Birdal, of Euro-Step who's written for us in the past for an update.
Had good playoff games in the quarter finals and semis, struggled a bit in the finals, has a small hamstring issue. But made good improvement on defense, defending opposition's primary ball handler Carlos Arroyo, going through screens, challenging shots nicely. Coach is trying to initiate him more as a pick-and-roll ball handler in the second half of the season and he's a bit turnover prone there, still improving.
On Sunday, the 6'8" swingman with the big hands and long arms, scored 12 points on seven shots, 1-of-1 from two point range, 3-of-6 from deep with three assists and thee turnovers vs. Galatasaray in Fenerbahce's first loss in the series. The game before, he went scoreless.
As for his contract, nothing new. He has said with increasing frequency and certainty that he will be back in Istanbul next season with some reports suggesting a two or three-year deal with easy NBA outs. But he hasn't signed a deal and Billy King said recently he remains an "option," but the Nets are unlikely to get his attention without the miniMLE which is earmarked for Shaun Livingston. Of course, as his game expands, he could be a trade asset come the draft on June 26.
Bogdanovic recently changed agents as did Mantas Kalnietis. Both will be repped in any NBA negotiations by Arn Tellem, who also reps Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez, Jason Collins and Jorge Gutierrez . His son, Matt, works for the Nets front office.
