I have been looking at the recent trade proposals that acquire Josh Smith and to tell you the truth I am not a big fan of Josh Smith. However, trying to trade Johnson or Brook is intriguing. I have put up some brook trades that people have not really liked. So with this trade I try go the acquiring talent path rather than huge expire contracts, which I still believe is very valuable, but whatever.
Now Aminu and Stiemsma are expiring contracts and are added for salary purposes so this trade is really Gordon and Anderson for Brook and Joe.
I think this is a fair trade for both sides for a few reasons. First, your trading Brook a nets draft pick for Anderson another Nets draft pick so I hope that cancels out the silly remarks people make about home grown loyalty. Second, and more seriously, Anderson's style fits better with what Nets and Kidd want to do. He is basically a better version of Mirza and Anderson like Lopez is only 25 years old. Now they are both currently injured, which cancels out the risk factor for both sides. However, Anderson gets paid a lot less than Lopez for the same amount of years. Third, the pelicans have Davis who plays PF and having Lopez might be a better fit than Anderson who also plays PF. While Anderson next to Garnett might work beautiful helping to further spread the floor and if you look at Brook and Anderson's stats Anderson's production is pretty similar. Fourth, with Joe you are losing a clutch player, but gaining Gordon who is smallish 6"4 for the SG position, but a bull dog. He also makes considerably less than Joe for the same amount of years and actually has a better PER than Joe who has a tendency to disappear for long stretches in games. What you lose in three point shooting you get it back from Anderson. However, if you look this year Gordon is shooting very close to the same percentage at three as Joe so he is not bad and another important point is that while Joe is 32 years old Gordon is only 25. Fifth, with Brook and Joe the Pelicans would be mixing in some veteran all stars to a young growing group that might take the burden off of Davis.
With this trade your actually getting younger and cheaper without significantly hurting the production and your bringing in players who can step in and contribute right away. I am not sure the Pelicans do this given Brooks medical concerns and Joe's high salary so the Nets may have to throw in Bogs to get it done. Either way I do the deal.
What do you think?
starting lineup of Williams, Gordon, Pierce, Anderson, and Garnett looks pretty good. and you still have Livingston and co coming off the bench. You could bring Gordon off the bench which would really give the bench fire power and leave Livingston with the starters. Having Anderson also makes you more flexible because he could play the SF spot. Imagine a line up with Mirza and Anderson on the floor together? 3 point city.
