The Coming of Mirza Teletovic

Mirza Teletovic is an upcoming player in the NBA solely for his outstanding 3-point shot. Teletovic will surprise many this season, you can already see hints of it in the preseason. In his first 3 games, Teletovic is already 10 out 19 from behind the arc and in his most recent outing against Sacramento, he shot 7/12 (58.33%) and scored 22 points in 30 minutes. Now, I’m not saying he’s going to average 20+ points during the 2014-2015 campaign. But his production will surely rise from the 8.6 PPG he had last year. Plus the great thing about Teletovic is the Nets can use him in a multitude of different ways. First, he can come off the bench and knock down a few threes against bench players if the Nets need that "in game" resurgence. Or, he can start at PF when the ancient 38 year old Kevin Garnett needs some rest. The reason I like this option the best is that he will not be as big of a focus on the court. Teams will throw their worst defender on him will they try and figure out how to guard the talents of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez when they are all on the court t once. Teletovic has the ability to thrive in this situation and if teams plan to go zone, good luck. The Nets knew this in the beginning when they signed Teletovic who was born in the little country of Bosnia and before coming to the NBA, actually played in Spain and earned the Spanish League Rising Star Award in 2008. But he left Spain with his 2 million Euros and took a nice fat contract from the Brooklyn Nets. Ever since that deal was made in 2012, Teletovic has been getting better and better. From the 2012-2013 to the 2013-2014 season, I have watched Teletovic improve and become an important role player in the dynamic Brooklyn Nets team. From his first season to his second, his PPG went from 3.5-8.6, RPG move from 1.8-3.7. His MPG went from 9.4-19.4 and he is shooting a lot better from the field and beyond the arc. This is all while playing 72 games as opposed to 53 games in his first season with the Nets. Now, I know what you’re thinking, these are still not great numbers. I agree but I’m looking long term into Mirza Teletovic. At 29 he’s entering the prime of his career. If e can shed off a few pounds, look out! MT3 has so much potential and I can’t wait to see it unfold in this upcoming 2014-2015 NBA season.
