Trade: Kyle Lowry for Bojan Bogdanović

I wonder if the GMs of the Nets and Raptors would agree to this trade. The assets both teams have are valuable but uncertain in the near term.

Kyle Lowry: Impending free agent and rumoured to not be returning to the Raptors. Would Toronto consider trading his expiring contract or keeping him for this possible play off run and then losing him to another team in free agency for nothing? It is possible Toronto could offer him an extension but there has been little reported about this.

Bojan Bogdanović: A leading player in Europe who would be a lottery pick if he entered the 2014 draft. An intriguing scorer and as an international player may fit better into the polyglot young Raptors team.

There would need to be assurances from both players they would sign contracts to play next season with their new teams.

Why the Nets do this trade:

Trading Bojan removes the headache from the Nets of will he come over or stay in Europe.

Trading for Lowry gives the Nets a completely different style Guard than we have on the roster who can add a new dimension to the team. Lowry could start or come off the bench and gives us far better depth in the back court than we have now.

Another reason for the Nets: Lowry is a known NBA talent while Bojan seems to indicate he will continue to improve he is an unknown known (H/T Rummy).

Why the Raptors do this trade:

They get another young asset for a player on an expiring deal who may leave for nothing in a few months.

They add another international player who has no problem playing in Toronto - something free agents tend to have a problem with.

A scoring wing - already a strength for the Raptors but whenever DeRozan or Ross is sitting on the bench they could bring in Bojan.

Bojan is equivalent to another lottery pick in this stacked 2014 draft.

So while this trade will likely not happen it does seem to make sense for both teams from my perspective.
