Some mentions have been made that the front office may try to trade Jason Terry in a 1 for 1 deal this offseason if they can't expand this deal before it's official on July 12th.
I've heard numbers quoted as to how much salary they can take back and it's usually something like $6,631,250, but that number is incorrect.
The correct number is $7,131,641.
This is because Jason Terry has a 7.5% trade kicker.
A trade kicker is a one time use bonus, so it will only be added in the initial trade to us, but it will bring his salary up permanently once he's officially dealt to Brooklyn.
Right now his salary is listed as $5,225,000 for this coming season on Shamsports and $5,450,000 for the 2014-15 season.
IIRC trade kickers are done as follows:
1. Take players remaining years of guaranteed salary(no ETO's, partial guarantees, etc.) and multiple it by his trade kicker.
2. Divide that by years remaining on said players contract. In this case that's $800,625 divided by 2.
3. Take that number and add it to each year of said player's salary to come up with his new incoming and permanent salary.
So Terry's new salary will be $5,625,312.50, IIRC gets rounded up to $5,625,313.
For 1 for 1 trade purposes his salary can bring in 125% of that salary plus $100,00, resulting in a maximum incoming salary of $7,131,641.
Just some food for thought.
