Here's a thought. I've always read that Bojan Bogdanovic, if not for his contract with his current club, would've been a lottery pick. And since he was our second round pick he doesn't have a fix salary and would need the mini-MLE. So why not have this trade scenario:
Nets trade the rights to bogdanovic and/or cash and/or the 2018 2nd rounder (assuming i'm right that that pick hasn't been dealt yet) to a team that has a top 10 to top 12 pick. Like say the blazers (10th pick), wolves (9th pick) or the pistons (8th pick) which are both in need of young wingers.
No salaries are needed to match since we're only trading the rights of our draft pick. Plus from what i know, it's a legal trade since i have seen teams do it on draft night.
With that trade, we could acquire a wing like Shabazz Muhammad or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (who is compared to Kerry Kittles by nbadraft.net) or a big like Steven Adams, Kelly Olynyk or Cody Zeller (who are all available around the 8th-10th pick.
PLUS it would make the mini-MLE available for FA's that we want to sign. Because as a 1st round pick, I believe that whatever salary they make doesn't take up any exceptions.
PLUS! if the proposed deal is made, we wouldn't have the need to deal our 22nd pick which we could use to draft the other need. For example if we draft a wing with the lotto pick, we could draft Gorgui Dieng or Jeff Withey with the 22nd. If we draft a big with the lotto pick, we could get another scoring wing like Reggie Bullock, Jamaal Franklin or Allen Crabbe. All of which are available around the 20s.
