WXYZ in Detroit is reporting that the Pistons and "New Jersey Nets" have reached out to Brian Shaw, quoting "a source with knowledge of the situation." But a league source said Wednesday the team has not contacted Shaw and in fact has not contacted anyone but Phil Jackson.
"Indiana Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw has been contacted by the Detroit Pistons to interview for the team's head coaching job, according to a source with knowledge of the situation," reports Tom Leyden. "The source also said Shaw has been contacted by the New Jersey Nets." Pacers GM Donnie Walsh has said he would give permission to teams interested in Shaw, but noted as well that it's traditional for teams to wait until a team's playoff run is complete. The Pacers are up 3-1 over the Knicks in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
The WXYZ report follows a tweet by Peter Vecsey two nights ago on the Nets coaching search. Vecsey criticized Magic Johnson and Bill Simmons lack of knowledge on the Nets search for a head coach, in which he said Brian Shaw is "hi on list."
It's sad what Madge & his boy toy don't know bout BK coaching situation that's public knowledge. Bk did call PJ and has Shaw hi on list— Peter Vecsey (@PeterVecsey1) May 12, 2013
In other news on the coaching search, Vecsey reported Tuesday night that Lionel Hollins agent, Warren LeGarie, is talking to at least one, maybe two teams about what contract terms might "scare off" Memphis.
I'm told agent Warren LeGarie has spoken 2 at least 1 team, probably 2, re what'll take 2 sign FA Lionel Hollins should terms scare off MG.— Peter Vecsey (@PeterVecsey1) May 15, 2013
