When you look around Barclays Center, a lot of the fan experience has been touched in some way by the Nets No. 2 business executive, Fred Mangione.

The executive vice-president/chief marketing officer of the Nets and Barclays Center has had his hand in the Hello Brooklyn campaign, BCTV with Alyonka Larionov; the CISCO Stadium Vision mobile apps, enhancing the in-game experience for the fans in the seats: even the design of the Nets logo and tickets. Of the black-and-white, he's said, ""We didn’t want to overthink it."

Think of him as Brett Yormark's quiet side.

The New Jersey native is featured in this week's Sports Business Journal, the subject of its weekly q and a of a top sports executive, called "What I Like." His answers give some hints about what to expect down the road, talking about mobile apps as sports' "next wave," and the need for marketing analytics to determine what fans like and don't. He also hints at why he's in the game, noting his favorite quote is from Vince Lombardi, “If winning isn’t everything, why do they keep score?”

As for his most influential person, it's his late mother. "...who let me turn down a pharmaceutical job making $35,000, plus commission, for a ticket sales job paying $12,000, plus commission (and no benefits), to live out my dream of working in sports."
