I still believe this will turn around. What J-Kidd is doing is having a bunch of "Go- to Guys" play in a system predicated on not having the ball in your hands. It clearly isn't going very well but I believe it will improve. The easy way out would be to let our players abandon the system and go back to clear outs and one on one ball. Maybe playing that way we win some of these games but J-Kidd doesn't want a band aid solution. He wants to stick with the system until they get it, which I believe they will. He knows deep in the playoffs mastering his system will bring us to the top, while hero ball and clear outs won't.
What we are seeing is frustrated players. They try to save the game by playing one on one ball, but it seems the other players on the court are still trying to run the play. This in turn makes us look completely out of sync, which we are, because the plays keep getting broken, in turn, leading to out of rhythm shots, turnovers, bad positioning for rebounds etc.. they must stick to the system. Someone breaks the play down( Blatche, Johnson, Pierce) and it seems to have a domino effect on the unit.
So in my opinion IF we make a trade, it should be a minor one ( jason terry's expiring, Mirza) for a young athletic type or a pick. I think the better answer would be to split up the starting unit. Pierce and Johnson play almost identical games. I think Kirilenko would be better suited for the starting unit as a 5th option. I'm clueless on KG..it just doesn't make sense and maybe that's a good thing. Maybe it's just a plain old slump. Being old doesn't make the ball go in and out. Plus he's rebounding pretty well, another sign that it's not age. Either way I hope he gets out of it soon.
All in all, I really do believe this will turn around and be a pleasure to watch. Once the injuries cease, maybe a little starting line-up shake up, and most importantly NOT abandoning the system will turn all of this around. How soon we forget that we were awful in Dec of last year, 3-10 I believe. It's part of the game. Keep the faith fellow Nets fans! Our boys need us more then ever!
