There was some big developments last night in the Deron Williams injury story. The thought has been for Williams to miss the first two preseason games for precautionary reasons due to his prior history with his ankle.
He started wearing a wearing a walking boot around September 18 after suffering a sprained ankle and a bone bruise in Utah. However, at his charity dodgeball event, he said, "As long as I’m ready (for the season opener on Oct. 30 at Cleveland), that’s all that matters to me." That was never even a thought at the time for the star point guard to miss more than a month.
Although, now that belief is in question. Jason Kidd raised the possibility last night for the first time that DWill may miss the beginning of the season.

Many fans haven't been too worried about Williams injury and have agreed with the team's decission to hold him out and make sure he is 100%, but that's only if he is ready by the time the season to starts. That's been the plan and Williams has also said that he is capable of playing, saying at Media Day, "If it was up to me, I would be playing right now. I can walk fine. It doesn’t hurt. It’s just protecting me from myself."
According to Mike Mazzeo of ESPN.com, and Tim Bontemps of the New York Post, Williams did look fine last night working out before the Nets' game.

Nets' fans have been advised not to hit the panic button yet. If Williams' is working out, and working out well, and there are still 17 days until the season begins, there's still a better chance he plays than he doesn't. The worst case would be for him to rush back and injure it even more.
