On April 12, as the regular season winds down, expect another Brooklyn sports moment that will bring attention to the Nets: the premiere of the Jackie Robinson bio-pic "42." The movie will once again re-ignite memories of the Dodgers and Brooklyn's historic role in the integration of professional sports. The connection will be enhanced by the sound track, which features Jay-Z.
The Nets have happily linked their history with the Dodgers ... and Robinson's legacy. At the dedication of the Ebbets Field flagpole at Barclays Center was Robinson's daughter, Sharon, and Jerry Stackhouse, who has worn No. 42 to honor Robinson's life. Robinson's 90-year-old widow, Rachel, was expected to appear the Nets opener on November that was postponed because of Hurricane Sandy.
