With the opening of training camps around the league, ESPN's Marc Stein publishes his first power rankings of the fall. Stein ranks the Nets 12th in the league and fifth in the Eastern Conference, behind Miami (1), Boston (6), Philadelphia (7) and Indiana (8).

"They didn't get Dwight," Stein writes. "But the Nets did just enough, by trading for Joe Johnson and signing a slew of others, to convince D-Will to stay, ship a watchable team to their gleaming new Brooklyn palace and give themselves a shot at finishing higher than the Knicks. It's a start."

The Nets are Stein's most improved team from last season, jumping 13 spots over the summer.
