Brooklyn Nets
This is the weekend former college hoopsters, streetballers and anyone with $150 and a dream can try out for the Springfield Armor at the PNY Center. Saturday's open tryout, reports Milton Lee, is a small part of how the Nets and their D-League affiliate are working together.
The primary goal is the development of Nets players, says Lee. "Then developing players we have in Springfield and identifying D-League candidates for the NBA. And, thirdly, it’s searching outside of people already in the league for potential D-League caliber and maybe even NBA caliber players."
So far, the arrangement, which costs the Nets less than $300,000 a year, has helped them fill spots opened by injury and identify Gerald Green for later call-up.
