I have very risky proposition about 2013 free agency. Let's say the Nets can somehow convince a bad team to take JJ's bad contract in a trade with the Bobcats for example who are desperate for talent and we trade JJ for a a bag of balls. What would you say about going all in for CP3 in free agency and put him at starting guard next to DWill. I bet we would have a very high chance of getting him too, because he is very good friend of Deron Williams. I realize Paul would be playing out of position and would be undersized at SG, but would you still flip the coin and hope it comes up heads and that DWILL and CP3 could coexist? Let me explain my reasoning for signing CP3 besides helping the team improve.
The Benefit: Getting CP3 does more than just help our team on the court. It would help the Nets mightily in the trade market for other positions. If you sign CP3 in free agency, you can trade him within a few years and see if you can get an upgrade at PF over Humphries or a SF who is a star. Because guys let's face it, this is the only way I can see us executing a trade that gm's will be giving to give up a good player at PF or SF for a PG that fills a tough position. I know people think Josh Smith, but honestly we can do a little better than him.To me it's a win win, because let's face it, even if we did strike out getting CP3 after we traded JJ, you mean to tell me Marshon Brooks can't be better than JJ? To me it's worth it even if CP3 and DWILL can't coexist on the same team and it hurts the Nets defensively, because someone will give up a good player for CP3 in a trade in the end. Again I'm not necessarily advising we should do this, but it's something I'm throwing out there.
