We NEED to bring back Shelden Williams

Stay connected for news and updates

Quick, who was the heart and soul of the New Jersey Nets last year? It probably took you awhile, but if you think about it, that guy was Shelden Williams.

Anyone who watched a Nets game this year knows his offense is limited. He throws up weird hooks, he misses some easy passes, his inability to use two hands on dunks occasionally has cost the team points. I am aware of all of that, but he also has some impressive throwdowns, and he fights for every single rebound. Every one, and he came up with a lot of offensive boards to keep possessions alive last year.

You remember those physical games Kris Humphries had with Pau Gasol and Blake Griffin last year? I saw Shelden Williams battle like that just about every night. He was an iron horse who was making an effort to be on the floor for every game until he suffered that facial injury. He consistently battled on the defensive end, something few Nets can claim.

Shelden Williams worked hard and brought energy to the team and we need to sign him. I don't think he'll be opposed to a very low deal, which is all we have. I know Avery Johnson appreciated his effort, and even though he is not as flashy as other players, he is the kind of hustle teammate you need to fill out a bench.

I love Marcus Camby. He is one of the best rebounders of his era, and I hope we can sign him, but the Nets need to bring back Shelden Williams too. When the injuries pile up he is a guy you can count on to play hard for extended minutes, or just give some energy off the bench when his number is called.
