I know I'll get beaten up here for even mentioning this, but I'd rather the Nets not go after Howard. The team with Dwight looks like this:
PG: Williams-FA scrub-Taylor
SG: Johnson-FA scrub-FA scrub
SF: Wallace-FA scrub-FA scrub
PF: Teletovic-Evans-FA scrub
C: Howard-Jeff Foote (don't sleep on this guy - I've actually played against him and he's solid)-FA scrub
It's a very solid starting 5, but there's zero depth and if Williams or Howard get hurt, the season is shot.
Not to mention, you're losing 3 first-round picks. Sure, they'll be at the bottom of the round, but that's good cheap bench bodies.
And, who really knows what the deal is with Howard's back?
If you don't make a deal, here's your lineup:
PG: Williams-decent FA (Felton? Farmar?) -Taylor
SG: Johnson-Brooks-FA scrub
SF: Wallace-G.Green-FA scrub
PF: Hump or Illyasova-Teletovic-Evans
C: Lopez-Foote-FA scrub
While Lopez is a huge step down defensively, the PF upgrade can make up for that. And you've got a good, strong bench to fill in if someone gets hurt. And you keep the picks. Dump on lower-round picks all you want, but look what Boston did, picking Sullinger and Melo - those are the types of role players you need to win.
