Take a deep breath! Don't exhale just yet!
Chris Broussard reports Tuesday morning that the Nets and Magic are in talks to trade Dwight Howard to Brooklyn, which would give the Nets a Big Three of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Howard.
"Sources: The Nets & Magic are discussing a trade that would send Dwight Howard to Brooklyn for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks... and the Nets' first-round picks in 2013, 2015 and 2017 ....move would give Nets Big 3 of D-Will, Dwight & Joe Johnson." Later, Broussard and Ken Berger reported other teams are still in the mix, but as Broussard noted, Nets offer is "not bad." He added that Deron Williams has told the Nets he's willing to sign for less if necessary.
Chris Mannix confirmed the story, writing that the Nets might be able to take on Hedo Turkoglu. "In a potential deal with Orlando, source says Nets would be willing to take back Hedo Turkoglu...Those asking how Nets can afford this: Can exceed the cap to re-sign Lopez and Humphries (Bird rights) and then flip them for Dwight/Hedo." Lopez and Humphries would have to approve the terms of a sign-and-trade. Howard and Humphries share an agent, Dan Fegan.
Fred Kerber also reports the two sides are talking after a rebuff Sunday. "Nets made 2 separate offers Sunday were rejected by Magic who then heard nothing else to match Brooklyn proposal. so they talking again."
Overnight, Peter Vecsey tweeted that new Orlando GM Rob Hennigan had called Billy King to try and renew talks after he had declined to deal with the Nets earlier in the day. "Told Nets today he would not deal with them. Now asking, say sources, if something can be done?"
