Josh Smith is a free agent next offseason, so is Dwight Howard. If you had just made it conditional that you would only take Joe Johnson, if Smith was packaged with him, and let Atlanta turn you down, imagine how it would have ended. Begin by signing Mirza to 5M, sign Humphries to a 2 year deal with the last being a team option. Keep Morrow for a one year deal, sign someone like Jason Terry for a huge one year deal, Resign Green, Sign Kidd
DWill/Taylor/Kidd/Farmar
Terry/Brooks/Morrow
Wallace/Green
Hump/Mirza
Lopez/Jwill
We go into next season with a midlevel team with young talent and veteran discipline in Terry and Kidd (which we would all much rather have than Johnson)
Atlanta would have realized that they were about to lose Smith for nothing, and they will also realize even if they manage to get a return for Smith, they lose the chance to dump Johnson, they call us at the trade deadline and...
They give us BOTH for Humphries, Morrow, Farmar, Brooks, Green and two picks
And if that doesn't go through, we sign either Smith or Howard in the offseason, and then trade Hump and a few contracts for Johnson
If you pitched this plan to Dwill, he would have understood and still resigned, he knows Lopez + Wallace > Dirk
We would have had Dwill/Johnson/Wallace/Smith/Lopez or Dwill/Johnson/Wallace/Lopez/Howard
