Ok, before you all have me commited to Arkham, hear me out. I think if you clear your mind of highlight reels and sportcenter clips, you will see that I am not insane.
Lets start with Offense, does anybody here believe that Brook Lopez won't avg. 20-25 pts next season? (shooting at about 80% from the line...) Brook Lopez scoring Avg. has gone up every year and last year before he got hurt again he scored 66 pts over 2 games. Say what you will about Lopez, when he is healthy he can score. (and hes only 24...) Dwight on the other hand avg. 22 pts 2 years ago, went back down to 20 pts this year and after bieng in the league for 8 seasons you can be pretty sure he isn't going to develop any new tricks anytime soon. (no DWILL is not a wizard he isn't going to make Dwight an offensive monster overnight) It doesn't take a lot to see that Brook will be better than Dwight offensivly going forward. Now of course everybody is going to tell me that Dwight is a monster on Defense and that alone makes it worth while. Heres the problem with that comment, Dwight last year was not the monster on defense he usually is. He did not win DPOY for a reason. He wasn't even second as most people would tell you it came down to Chandler and Ibaka, Dwight was not even in the conversation. Is Dwight still better that Brook on defense, Yes of course. but its not as big a difference as it used to be. One thing people are forgeting about Dwight is that he is going to be entering his 9th season in the NBA this year. The Majority of recent Centers (Ewing, shaq, duncan, Zo, Mutumbo, Olujuwan, Robinson)all started to go downhill after thier 8th season. I'm not saying Dwight is going to suck next season but am saying he is not going to get any better and he will start to slow down. everybody talks about how Wallace will look in his 4th season of JJ in his last season, what about Dwight? He plays Center, the position that puts the most strain on your body. Oh and he just had a little thing called Back Surgery. Dwights strongest skill is his athleticism, doesn't that worry you in the slightest? If it was going to be a straight up trade Dwight for Brook, yeah you probably do it, but it looks like the Nets would probably have to give up Wallace too. Its just too high a price to pay, especially when you already have a very good center on your team.
