To many before coming into the hands of the Nets, was simply known for his infamous cup-cake dunk at the NBA 2008 Slam Dunk Competition. Or perhaps knowing him since he had a missing ring finger. After his short tenure at Boston Green began to shift to other teams, mostly due to his immaturity, and inability to translate his talent to the NBA game.
He later found himself on a D-League lineup the LA Defenders. Averaging a nice line of 19/4.6/1.6 in 30 minutes. Earning him a spot on the D-League all-star team. Gerald Green led the Western team with 28 points and was named MVP.
Because of his performance the Nets gave him a 10-day contract. Many contracts followed that eventually he was signed through the season.
Personally one of the most exciting and explosive players I've ever seen. He brings so much entertainment that I haven't seen since the Vince Carter days. Once a man only known for his athleticism comes back to the league well rounded. Knocks down jumpers with ease, has a post game that can be deadly, and an inside game that can rival one of the best and I mean it. His defense isn't bad either, its just not great. But sadly we as Nets fans won't get a chance to see him develop or flourish as much as we'd like to. Billy King has a great eye for talent and spent most of the Mid-Level Exception on Mirza Teletovic, much like Gerald Green is amongst the top players in his league.
On the bright side the way Billy King and company scour for talent is outstanding. So I have no doubt Mirza will meet my expectations if not more. But lets all take a moment to say our farewells to Gerald Green as he is headed to Pacers. As most of us know he really wanted to be a part of the Brooklyn Nets, really loved the fans, and just loved playing for us. My hopes and prayers go out to Gerald Green and to a successful career in Indiana, just please don't embarrass us :D.
