About an hour ago, I took my usual subway ride on the #2 or #3 train from Park
Place in downtown Manhattan to the Atlantic Ave. station in Brooklyn. For the past 2 years, I've preferred going that way to catch the Long Island Railroad home than join the cattle stampede at Penn Station (sshhh!). The Atlantic Ave. subway station is joined to the Atlantic Terminal - Brooklyn LIRR station. The MTA did a major renovation of the subway and LIRR stations, a few years ago, in anticipation of the development at Atlantic Yards. The station is at the corner of Atlantic Ave. and Flatbush Ave. - right across from Barclays Center.
To my surprise, as I reached the turnstiles to exit the subway area and enter the LIRR terminal, I saw an 8" x11" sign which said "This Station is Now Atlantic Ave - Barclays Center."
How to Get to Atlantic Ave - Barclays Center Station (AA-BC):
From Penn Station: Take #2 or #3 Subway trains Downtown - about 25 minutes to AA-BC
From Grand Central Station: Take #4 or #5 Subway trains Downtown - about 25 min.
From Long Island: Take LIRR to Atlantic Terminal - Brooklyn
I know you can also take PATH trains to World Trade Center and get on the #2 or #3 at Park Place station (corner Church St. and Park Place), but I'm not sure if there's a tunnel or you have to go outside. In either case, it's less than a 5 minute walk from PATH to the Park Place Station. AA-BC is about 15 minutes from Park Place (downtown).
The Brooklyn Nets
are taking over Brooklyn. Even changing station names.
