EL SEGUNDO, CA - MAY 11: Phil Jackson, coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, speaks during his last official Lakers news conference at the team's training facility on May 11, 2011 in El Segundo, California. The Lakers were swept out of their best of seven series with the Dallas Mavericks four games to none. There's a lot of details in Sam Amick's report on the Magic talking with Phil Jackson: that Phil would coach "remotely", maybe dropping in on the Magic once a month; that he wants a big paycheck and a slice of the ownership; that Brian Shaw would be the hands-on coach with Scottie Pippen as his lead assistant; and that another Jackson acolyte, Sam Vincent, would have a front-office role.
Does this sound like a viable plan? Probably not, but it's Alex Martins' last chance at keeping Dwight Howard. So would it meet its goal of getting Howard in Magic colors or does he still want the Nets? "Sources close to Howard continue to say that he wants out and has no plans of re-signing in Orlando," Amick writes.
