Any hope that the Nets would hire Julius Erving as part of their return to New York ended Friday night when their Atlantic Division rivals, the 76ers, named him as a "strategic adviser." The move was announced at halftime of the 76ers' home game vs. the Bulls, which Philadelphia won to give them a 2-1 lead.
"My advice will be across the board," Erving said. "I have built a relationship since last November which really opened this door for me." Many Nets fans had hoped to see Dr. J re-join the Nets on their return to New York. Erving won two ABA championships with the Nets and an NBA title with the 76ers.
