Draft day trade assets 2.0

On draft day, the free agency will have technically yet to start, so in terms of salary and cap space, players with expiring or possibly expiring contracts (in the case of a player option) cannot be traded, but still count against the salary cap when determining how much cap space is available on draft day. So what I've done is taken excerpts of posts on the main page, mainly "Nets Trade Assets Bridging Brooklyn," and highlighted the assets that the Nets can use on draft day to make a trade. I'll make a new post after the draft lottery takes place (re: our 2012 pick), unless NI wants to add that as a section on his next trade asset post.

  • "A million dollars or so" of cap space
  • MarShon Brooks ($1.1 million), Jordan Williams ($473,604), Anthony Morrow ($4 million) and Johan Petro ($3.25 million)
  • The rights to Bojan Bogdanovic.
  • In 2012, the Nets have their own first round pick IF they finish 1, 2 or 3 in the lottery, a 25.5% chance of happening. There is a 7.5% chance that pick ends up being the first overall pick.
  • In 2012, the 57th pick from the Heat.
  • In 2012, the 60th pick IF the Lakers agree by June 1 to accept $250,000.
  • In 2013 (and beyond), the Nets have their own first round pick unless they get the 1, 2, or 3 in the 2012 draft.

  • In 2016 and 2017, the Nets have their own second round picks.
  • A $3 million trade exception.
  • A $1.3 million trade exception.
  • $3 million cash (counting towards the limit of cash to be used in trades for the 2011-12 season, not 2012-13 season)
