Since it looks like we wont have the two star tandum of Deron and Dwight to open in BKlyn I think we should go we an athletic deep team with scorers at every position. Very similar to the way Memphis and Denver's roster is assembled. Here is my plan B that I believe can lead us to a deep playoff run in this eastern conference.
Bigs-Center and Power Fowards
I like this mix because it gives us many options on offense and defense. Although Odom is not an FA, he wants to play here and may get traded and bought out by another team. If you play Odom at the 4 w Lopez at the 5, it will spread the floor so Lopez can operate better in the post. Odom can help at small forward too and we can go with a very big lineup. Id really like to have Camby but it depends on his price tag, he gives us defense that we are really lacking in the middle. Humphries has had another good year and he wants to be here so he may give a slight discount for a double double guy (Ilysova may be too expensive).
Swing Men-Small Forwards and Shooting Guards
OJ Mayo/Jamal Crawford
This would be and explosive unit but managing minutes may be a problem. A problem any good coach would want to have. We already know what Gerald squared brings to the table. I believe Green will come back a better defender once he is in an NBA camp and learns to use his athletism on the other side of the ball. In order for this to work we would have to somehow dump Morrow and Petro, ideally in the move to get Odom. Mayo or Crawford would depend on who is cheaper and who takes the shorter deal. I think Brooks is going to be a solid 2 guard in the league but he needs to grow. Play behind one of these guys for two years and I think he is ready by his fourth season. Steve Novak
is probably not realistic because he will probably get a big pay day based on his year w the Knicks
. But w Lopez in the post, Odom playing the 4 and Novack and Carwford on the wings, how could any one double Lopez (probably a terrible defensive lineup but can be run in stretches). Lopez would just need to work on his passing out of the post.
Deron Williams Andre Miller Aaron Brooks
jordan Farmar jordan Farmar
Armon Johnson Armon Johnson
Deron Williams is obviously priority number 1. Kidd has said that he wants to back up Deron no matter where. It would be nice to see Kidd back w the org. That would be a solid back court. Armon being the third PG, I really like his energy and he seems to understand his role and doesnt try to do too much (unlike Gaines). Now if Deron leaves Brooks and Miller will probably depend on price and who accepts the shortest deal. Neither are you PG of the future however Miller is a vet who knows how to run a team and will be good mentor for the young legs behind him. Brooks is explosive and very up tempo and can score. I havent seen Brooks much since the injury but if he is anything like he was with houston id give him a shot. Of course with the hopes that the coach who is a former PG can help him remain under control and stay within the system.
Im am not a salary cap guru but I only see one max contract on this roster so I think the numbers should work out. This team can give you a big line up with odom at the three or a small athletic line up putting Wallace at the four. I think this would be a solid defensive team and offensively create match up problems at several positions.
