While agreeing with Charles Barkley is one of the most difficult things to do, I agree with his logic that the NBA lottery is rigged. Many of you say "But we're the Nets. The Nets never have any luck with anything". While right now that may be true it won't be for very long and I'm going to tell you why.
This off-season after the lockout ended there was a ton of drama with Chris Paul. First he was traded to the Lakers but it was rejected by David Stern. Not too long after Chris Paul is traded to the Clippers but its allowed. But why? Why would David Stern reject a trade of Chris Paul to the Lakers but allow him to go to the Clippers? Well at least to me its pretty clear.
The Lakers are the most storied franchise in NBA history. They have appeared in the most finals and they always seem to be good. They have a very good roster without Chris Paul but he would have put them over the top. However before the Chris Paul trade what did the Clippers have? Well of course Blake Griffin but what else other than that? DeAndre Jordan? Yeah, no thanks. Randy Foye? Nah I'm alright. The Clippers were the laughing stock of the NBA. They just plain sucked and there is no other way to put it. They didn't win games and were in the bottom half of attendance almost every year. Then Chris Paul is traded to the Clippers and just like that they become one of the best teams in the NBA and FILL SEATS! Not only did they jump up into the top 10 in attendance.. THEY JUMPED THE LAKERS! And as the theme of this post is MORE ATTENDANCE = MORE $$$
Well the Nets have been one of the worst teams in the NBA for a pretty long time. 12-70 and 24-58 in the past two seasons.. YUCK! Your telling me THAT team is going to Brooklyn? UMM NO THANKS! Deron Williams is on the verge of potentially leaving and what does that leave us? Brook Lopez? That's not going to fill seats! Which is why the Nets will win the lottery and get a top 3 pick.
I don't know about you but if I was in Brooklyn and had the chance to go to a Nets game and they had Deron Williams feeding the ball to Anthony Davis (and potentially Dwight Howard) I would do it in a heartbeat! But now if I'm in Brooklyn and have the chance to see the Nets play and they have Kendall Marshall (Assuming he's drafted if Deron leaves) feed it to Brook Lopez? NO THANKS! Not only will that team lose 60 games they won't fill seats in such a nice brand new arena!
So just to make it clear all I'm saying is the NBA is rigged. It's all about the $$$ and thats why the Nets will win the lottery and go to Brooklyn with a talented roster in a good position.
