The Real Battle for New York?

2 years ago, the Nets went into the summer of 2010 with hopes of landing Lebron James. Obviously, we all know how that ended for us. However, one of our main competitors in the chase for Lebron was the Knicks. Fast forward one year, and the Nets are once again attempting to land an all-star small forward in Carmelo Anthony. Where does Carmelo end up? On the Knicks. It is no surprise that the rivalry between the Knicks and Nets is becoming more heated than ever. Whenever a player states he wants to play in New York, immediately everyone starts arguing whether he wants to play for the Nets or the Knicks. Well, it looks like you can add one more all-star's name to the list of players these two teams will fight for: Dwight Howard.

Yup, you heard me. According to a reliable source (which no matter what you guys say, must remain unnamed), the chase for Dwight is going to come down to the Nets and the Knicks. It's no surprise that Dwight wants to play on our Nets. He has made that very clear since before the season began that he wants to open up the Barclays Center in a Nets uniform. On the other hand, we have heard no reports about the Knicks truly being a contender for Dwight. We have always heard Nets, Lakers, or Mavs. However, this source (who is an agent for many NBA players) has said that Dwight wants to play in New York, and while his preference remains the Nets, he would not mind playing on the Knicks. This scares me because of the fact that the Knicks could offer Orlando Amare and Chandler, which is a deal that would be very hard to top for the Nets.

The thought of the Knicks trading for Dwight really scares me. They definitely have the pieces to obtain him, he would most likely sign an extension there, and then we would most likely lose Deron. This would honestly be the worst case scenario for us. To lose another all-star to our rivals would be a dagger to the heart for this franchise, and could possibly set us back another few years. All I can pray for is that King works his magic (no pun intended) and comes up with a 3 or 4 team trade that will satisfy Orlando's desires and bring Dwight to the Nets. Until the night of March 15th, we are going to hear countless Dwight rumors, so be prepared. Just don't be surprised if the Knicks come out of nowhere and enter the race for Dwight near the deadline.

P.S. Please do not argue with this post and tell me it's not true. You may not want to believe it, but it came from a reliable source, and as a Nets fan, I thought it was my duty to share this news with all of you.
