First of all, I want to say hello again to all my fellow Nets fans. I haven't posted on this site close to a year , mainly because I was getting a bit aggravated that my posts would get deleted and/or warned even though I didn't felt that I've done anything wrong. Hopefully, whatever the problem was in the past, it won't effect my postings today.
Now, on to the main focus on this post. I know everyone, myself included, wants to see Dwight Howard and Deron Williams lead the Nets to Brooklyn and form a dynasty-in-the-making for years to come. Some people think we should just trade for Dwight right now while some feel we should allow Dwight to reach free agency and then sign him. I've been thinking long and hard about this situation and I've come to the conclusion that the Nets should take a chance (since Dwight has the Nets as his top choice) and wait until the summer to sign Dwight to the Nets.
One reason why I think they should wait until the offseason is because the Nets will be able to hold onto their assets (ie; Lopez, Brooks, 1st round picks, etc) and won't have to gut their roster for one superstar player. Another reason (and this may be one of the BIGGEST reasons) is because with all the assets that the Nets will have to offer, they could make a move for Josh Smith. Not only will he provide the Nets a LEGIT small forward that they've been lacking since Richard Jefferson's departure, but he's also very good friends with Dwight Howard and the Nets should do whatever it takes to keep both Dwight and Deron happy for the long term. The Hawks really could use a legit center on their team rather than using an undersized Al Horford, who is a natural PF. The Nets can do a sign-and-trade with Brook Lopez (and add another player if necessary) for Josh Smith. Both teams will have what they really need.
On the alternate side (Plan B), the Nets could just go ahead and trade for Dwight right now (say goodbye to Lopez, 1-2 1st rounders and possibly Brooks). Then in the offseason, they can sign Gerald Wallace for SF while filling other holes on the team. And if they want to, the Nets can wait until around the trade deadline and then shop Gerald Wallace (add another player or a pick if necessary) to the Hawks for Josh Smith. In the 2013 offseason, the Nets can then sign Smith to a a long-term deal. They will have their "Big Three" of Howard, Smith and Williams for a very long time in Brooklyn. What do you guys think about that potential plan? Feel free to post.
