So, while watching the Utah telecast of the game tonight, the announcers(who are awful btw) talked about how if Dwill leaves then that trade that brought him to us will be looked at as one of the worst trades ever. This is a pretty popular statement that I have heard on radio, TV, Twitter, and yes even on NetsDaily.com. I couldn't agree LESS, and here is why...
Just looking at the big "important" pieces, lets see. We get Deron Williams, who brought not that many wins, and a lot of frustration, but just his presence gave us the serious hope of improvement via free agency. He is a draw. We failed, and he might bolt, but what would we look like if he hadnt ever became a Net? Devin Harris wasnt going to take us anywhere, and he was rumored on the trading block for Utah all season. I spent half my NetsDaily chat trying to relax people about Harris, saying yeah he stinks, but its all we have. We weren't going anywhere with him, but people hated him!
OK then we have our 3rd pick in the draft, Derick Favors. A dud.
Alright then we have our 2011 pick that went to them. Ironically again #3. Just like we missed out on Wall in 2010, unless we had the #1 pick, this is another pick that really is nothing but a dud. We wouldn't have picked Kanter, but who else that could turn us into a winning team anytime in my lifetime was early in that draft? We made out better then actually having that pick with Brooks anyway.
So Really, why was it a bad trade if Dwill goes?
