Roy Hibbert will likely be hitting the open market in free agency this offseason. I'd much rather have him than Lopez - he's averaging 12.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game this season. Not sure what kind of contract he's going to demand, but I imagine it will be pretty high given he was an All-Star this year and is probably the top big man on the market.
I do think we have the cap space for him though, if we let Lopez walk. This would also save us all of the assets we'd lose if we still make a move for Howard, while still getting a top-notch center.
As for Hibbert's interests, I'm not sure. I'm sure he's looking for the most money he can get (what player isn't?), but he is a Queens native so perhaps he'll be attracted to the buzz going on in neighboring Brooklyn.
Is this realistic or a pipe dream?
