Nets Seek Peace Through Play

Stay connected for news and updates

The Nets, through Mikhail Prokhorov, have made a significant donation to PeacePlayers International, a non-profit group that uses basketball in five overseas areas to bring children together and teach them tactics for improving their communities.

PeacePlayers International will use the money to hold a joint Protestant-Catholic basketball tournament in Northern Ireland, a multi-ethnic city-wide tournament in South Africa, a summer camp for Turkish-Cypriot and Greek-Cypriot children in Cyprus, and a peace education retreat to help develop youth leaders into coaches in Israel.

"As a basketball team, we understand that the sport teaches players important life lessons about teamwork and sportsmanship," said Irina Pavlova, president of Onexim Sports & Entertainment, Prokhorov's ownership vehicle. The Nets have recently upped their schedule of community events in Brooklyn and New Jersey as well.
