Should I keep going to Nets games?
So I'm a pretty recent Nets fan. Started following them the start of the year Devin Harris made the All-Star game. Was able to get small glimpses of a somewhat decent Nets team that had a few exciting players like Devin Harris, Vince Carter, and a just drafted Brook Lopez.
Fast-forward three-four years, past the Vince Carter (and Ryan Anderson!) trade, past the 0-18 start and 12-70 season, past the Lebron-a-thon and Melodrama, the bright spot of the D Will trade, and now to the Dwightmare. I think I'll always be a Nets fan, no matter what. But I'm having second thoughts on going to Nets games until they move to Brooklyn just because I'd rather not see them lose every time I go to a game.
Right now I'm shooting 0 for 5, three from this season alone. The most recent being tonight's game against the Pistons. Part of the reason why I'm attending Rutgers Newark is because the Nets are playing here their last season in New Jersey. It's just depressing walking back after a loss in the cold city of Newark. This is somehwat reactionary, but I do wonder if its worth essentially gambling my money for the excitement that a Nets win may give.

You're A Fan
You not going to the game is showing your lack of support. That is the equivalent of the team stop playing. You do you part as a fan just as you would expect the team to do their part.
Then again maybe you are a jinx and should head over to the Garden to watch a few Knicks games
Haha. Yeah, I was thinking that.
I went with a friend who said everytime he’s gone to a game, they won. They ended up losing that night.
You should keep going to the games.
You’ve only been a Nets fan for a few seasons. That’s relatively little. A lot of fans are moaning right now, but I suspect they haven’t been fans for decades. This is nothing like, say, the vast wasteland of the Butch Beard era. Currently, we are looking forward to the possibility of acquiring Dwight Howard. Back then, fans like me were looking at Nets teams that were just as bad but with a lot, lot dimmer light at the end of the tunnel. It is too early for you to be burned out on the Nets. Keep going to games. Just my opinion.
2011-2012 season prediction: 22-44
And I'm fine with that. One of the original leaders of the "Dwight Howard, not Nono Hilario" movement.

You make good points
but despite the possibly bright future, currently the team just isn’t great to watch. Nearly half of the roster is injured. I will say I plan on buying tickets for the first home game Brook Lopez (as well as Marshon) is back, but right now, it’s pretty sad to see half of a team compete.
I only recently started going to nets games.
I became a fan in 3rd grade back in 01-02 when my friend decided to bet me who would win the NBA finals. I knew nothing about basketball except that Jason Kidd was a good passer, so I bet on the Nets. I lost, but ever since then, the Nets were my team.
Only this year am I financially stable enough to spend $$$ on random stuff. And I went to my first 4 games this season and planning on more. Win or lose, being there to support your team is the right thing to do. I feel much better knowing I got tickets and was there to cheer the Nets on. Good or bad, win or lose, I want them to win and ill do anything I can to help. Whether it helps or not, I know I did my part.
Especially at these prices, I have a choice to watch it live or to watch it on my TV. Live is just so much better and more fun for me. I say keep going, Nets will only get better once the injuries start healing anyway.
The big thing is, I don't have a job right now
which is the biggest detriment to keep going to games. Otherwise I wouldn’t be asking this question. As for the TV vs live thing, I dunno. I got pretty used to hearing the hilarious commentary by Ian Eagle and the Czar.
Don't forget Spenarkel.
He’s classic. So glad Nets fans don’t have listen to Albert anymore. Jim, Mike, and the Czar are all time greats.

You go to RU-N?
Let’s meet, I run the radio station and I write about the Nets for the newspaper.
General Manager of WRNU Rutgers-Newak Radio Station
New Jersey Nets Beat Writer for Rutgers-Newark The Observer
Sure thing.
Except I just transferred here this semester, so I pretty much have no idea where places are besides my classes and The Pru. lol
gotta go
nets aren’t having a good season…especially at home..so 0-5 is just a coincidence…
experience the win! hopefully it’ll come sooner than later!

Once you get the win
youll be so happy. if u got the time and mental toughness and the money, go for it
Nets Mets Giants All day Every day.
Beware the Lopez
NY Giants Tribute
ive been going to nets games since about 98.
win or lose i support this team to the fullest. i wont leave early when we are being blown out and will always cheer my team as they walk into the locker room. maybe im just talking nonsense but i love my team and i enjoy every single game ive ever been too. go to as many games and support them while u can. very soon it wont be as easy or cheap to attend games for us but i hope it wont stop me/us from attending lots of games every season.
p.s. please trade for josh smith, granger or gerald wallace. id even take kenneth faried for cheap…. just had to get that in
Dude
I go to almost every game, granted I’ve been a fan since the 80’s and I have an actual real-life job, but I live way farther then Newark and I’ve made it to like 8 home games so far.
keep the faith
I mean, this is the last year in NJ so enjoy get your live NBA in while you can b/c taking the PATH to the game costs way more then walking (not to mention I. Sure there won’t be tix on stubhub for $0.01 next year)
Were they saying "Boo" or "Boo-urns?"

interesting post
A long time fan, I’ve had season tix in past, now go to few games but mostly thats because my schedule has changed. Still view most games on the DVR. It’s more fun winning than losing but nba games are pretty interesting to watch. Folks argue that these are the best professional athletes in pro sports.
Now, during some recent stretches, it seemed like the Nets gave up – not so much this season but definitely the 0-18 season. That’s not easy to watch. But I’ve been a fan a long time, enjoyed watching Nets in losing seasons back at Rutgers Athletic Center. The Nets are the only team I really follow closely, and the main team I care about.
But I must say…I often find out who won the game before I get around to viewing it. And if Nets were blown out, I might skip the game.
Teams need fans. But the world doesn’t need fans loyal to their teams. It’s just sports. Teams win and lose. We wouldn’t be interested watching except for the trying-to-win thing, wouldn’t want to root and cheer. In the grand scheme of things it’s trivial which team wins.
Anyway my advice is the same as netsareboss’: if u got the time and mental toughness and the money, go for it.
I've been a nets fan since early march 2009
and nets are 0-7 in the games i go to see them.
107-78 vs bucks
93-92 preseason in philly
99-89 vs heat
123-120 triple OT vs thunder
104-103 OT vs suns (derons first home game)
105-103 vs bobcats
most of these losses hurt but i will always go to nets games bc its fun to be there and you never know if you will be lucky enough for an autograph or high five or to see a great game. and the nets need us.
MARSHON!!!!!!
You've gone to see games only against elite teams except the Pistons
so it’s no coincidence the Nets are 0 – 5. My advice? Wait until the 19th when the Bucks come to town. The next four games after tonight the Nets will be destroyed by their lack of front court depth. But the Nets will be desperate to win the Milwaukee game.
Monitor the tickets section of this site and spend $20 to get yourself a nice seat in the lower bowl. You may not feel like you have the money now but you will never get tickets that cheap in the Barclays center.
You’re a new fan and you live close by so I feel like you need to keep going (and be really loud).
WE WANT LOPEZ! clap clap clap clap clap
Keep scooping up cheap tickets on StubHub
If you want the chance to actually see them win, go to the games against other bad teams (Charlotte, Detroit, NOLA, Milwaukee, etc.) The games will be even cheaper, and while they’re likely to be very sloppy, they’ll also be more competitive.
Going to games shouldn't be a fan requirement
I am a Nets fan but I haven’t gone to a game all year. (Though I haven’t been back in NJ for that long.) When I was out of country I paid for the NBA pass to watch them go 0-17 two years ago so I have made sure to support them even when not home.
If money is an issue, don’t spend it on a ton of games. Even more, it takes time to go to games so if you’re busy with school, you can easily multitask by watching the game at home and doing some work.
Im not saying don’t go to the game. But don’t feel you have to to be a fan of the NJ Nets. Watch the team on TV and follow the comings and goings of the team. I’m not saying don’t go to a game or two a month of it you don’t want to but don’t feel it’s a must to be a fan.
On the other side of the coin, if you are finding cheap seats and have some free time and can get there easily (sounds like it’s not bad since you’re at Rutger Newark) I wouldn’t let poor play be the ONLY reason you don’t go here and there. Even though Rutgers has teams, the Nets will be the closest thing to the Newark campus and I remember how fun it was in college walking to college basketball games as much as I could.
