Game 27 - Nets vs. Pistons - Wednesday, February 8, 7:30 p.m.

The Nets had only eight players last week when they beat the Pistons by three points. When they play Lawrence Frank's charges again on Wednesday, they will have 10 players in uniform. Considering one of them is Anthony Morrow, who's scored 81 points his last three games, that's a big improvement.

The Pistons will be without the same three players they didn't have last week: Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva and Will Bynum. There's a chance Gordon and Bynum might play, but also there's also a possibility that Brandon Knight (broken nose) might not. Detroit is, of course, one of the NBA's worst teams, but the Pistons have won two straight, vs. the Bucks and Hornets, in close games, led by sophomore forward Greg Monroe.who's now averaging 16 and nine.

Morrow, who's returning from honoring his grandmother, hasn't missed a foul shot since January 16 and is second in the NBA in three pointers. Kris Humphries has also quietly been effective as a scorer, averaging 16 points and nine rebounds this month. Hump is also fifth in the NBA in offensive rebounds and ninth in total rebounds.

Greg Monroe is a damn good player.

It’s too bad he’s surrounded with dreck. Wallace and Jerebko have played well, but that’s it.

Also, what the heck happened to Prince this year? He’s hovering around replacement-level.

Oh pissing blimey there's jam coming out of the walls!

by TWilliAM on Feb 8, 2012 7:16 AM EST reply actions

Prince is old and finished...

And Detroit shot themselves in the foot with that contract they just gave him.

another bad move by Dumars

who has made a few lately. Still drafts well, though.

"It's as sweet as it ever was, I'll tell you. Now, hopefully, we started something and we can win some more championships, but we're going to enjoy this one right now. Have a little champagne." --Julius Erving, May 12, 1976, ABA champion Nets locker room.

LMAO

We would still be talking Dynasty iif he drafted Melo

by DJ HeavyDuty on Feb 8, 2012 9:45 AM EST up reply actions

Darko is not that bad

Just not worth the value with which he was drafted.

by ZR on Feb 8, 2012 9:55 AM EST up reply actions

Wasn't there talks of us giving him a contract

That was close to what Detroit gave him? Not quite as much but close enough. He would have taken it too if Detroit didn’t offer him the contract they did.

by breaking20 on Feb 8, 2012 8:26 AM EST up reply actions

Dumars is on the hot seat

and deservedly so. He’s done little good since the Rasheed Wallace trade. Period. That team needs to cut ties with him desperately. Frank was hired at the new owner’s behest and against Dumars’ wishes.

Dumars should've been fired

The Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva moves were so poor. Never understood them.

Stuckey has been playing well

and Knight is a prospect. They’re hoping they can combine Davis or Drummond with Monroe in the frontcourt. That would be a good foundation to build upon.

I haven't heard a good argument to date as to why the Pistons should have brought Prince back

I think it’s just Dumars unwilling to let go of the past and clinging on to those championship years

But all I’m waiting for is this game against the Magic at home. This game could be a turning point in the Dwightmare (like Melo visit at the garden last year). Let’s show some love to the big man.

Big game tonight

About as big as any other game in this lock out shortened season. For what feels like the third year straight, this team is just going through the motions, knowing full-well that this team will NOT be the same after the trade deadline or into the offseason. Gotta be hard playing for/with guys that won’t be around in a few weeks.

“Brook I know it’s hard to come to work and collect your $3.5 million salary when you could be traded to a place that has Disney World, your former best friend as a budding star, and of yeah they have no income tax down there.”

Brook: “But I don’t want to go I’ll miss my friends. You know, those 3 consistent fans that have shown up to see the Nets these past four years?”

“Don’t worry Brook, Paul Ernstein will be sure to drive up from Del Ray once in a while to check up on you.”

Everyone outside of deron williams, who shows up 4 out of 5 games...

I don’t really mean mailing it in on the court every night, but being a team. Getting excited on the sidelines, playing with enthusiasm and energy when they do make it onto the court. FAST BREAK BUCKETS DRIVE FANS INSANE and we average what? 8ppg in the paint, maybe half that on fast break scores?

Let's win some of these winnable games, and stay afloat; we're only 3 games back of 8th spot.

I think that is the only available spot.

Deron needs more weapons around him to be truly effective

so I wont place the blame there. It’s nice to watch a player become so much smarter on the basketball court. When Humphries first came to the Nets he just didn’t know how to play effectively. He seems to have really learned from Avery and put in the hard work.

Thing is he still sounds pretty dumb but I guess you don’t have to be a genius to figure out how to play basketball after doing it professionally for six or seven years.

The Stadium and Fan Issue

OK, let’s say we do get Dwight in a trade in March. Now we have D-Will and Dwight – to top 10 players – on our team. Will that change this issue of opposing teams fans just running through our stadium like they own it? Because I’d be very curious to see a home game against the Bulls, Celtics, or the Knicks with Deron and Dwight on the floor. If we don’t show up with Dwight and Deron on our team, that would be the ultimate embarrassment.

None. They need to stop the bleeding and they need to go out there with some pride. I think that Ammo returning will be a spark for this team.

A lot of the good progress that we made to stay within the playoff race has been squandered. I’d like to see that stop right here.

Supposedly their new system, unlike the Triangle, requires a good PG Just as important is to have somebody to match up against Westbrook.

he's not going to be back before February ends

recovery time is 6-8 weeks and he definitely needs the full 8, then he has to be cleared for non-contact drills, then full contact practice as well as getting adjusted to running again and getting back in game shape

so you might as well wait until March 1st. Marshon and Memo should be back in February hopefully
